I'm not that familiar with labor laws, but since its just one single location. Couldn't owners just shut the place down in they wanted to, and restart?

Not for the Union no. But plumbing issues are a different story.

That's what Walmart did when a store unionized.

Starbucks franchises stores, so it couldn't do so until the contract expired.

And, of course, if this takes off, they may not be able to close enough stores without destroying themselves. Corporations will do absolutely anything to crush organized labor though, that is absolutely true. Which makes solidarity(and more stores unionizing) key.

Starbucks is at a scale now where it should happen across the board and 100% of profit left over after expenses and R&D investments being divided evenly across the workers per store. And have them operate 24/7 with a night time crew too, will increase service availability and # of jobs and profit. I think theres more and more demand for night-time services than ever thanks to the pent-up demand in general and also the massive transition to a digital and renewables economy. And online college.

they can be at a size when they become like a government or like a competitive interest to elected bodies. For example how police unions are a thorn in the side for some left ideas like reducing police budgets. Etc.

its not that unions themselves are bad or that workers dont deserve $, the most nuanced conservative or libertarian take on unions would be that they can scale to the point where they can create problems too.

with that much pent up demand and that many dollars in fresh hands, 24/7 Starbucks and all profit going to workers at each location is a good move to cement the Starbucks brand. Imo fire the c-suite team if they dont agree and replace them with others who see the scaling opportunities here

People constantly vote against their own self interest because the ones making them suffer (and benefiting themselves) tell them it helps them.

And so they ignore reality and believe them.

No.
A contract away from being undercut by a competitor, possibly even another Starbucks franchisee.

not really because people already have that at home for like ten cents a cup

its turning into even more of a coworking space & study space and thats why it should be 24/7. People go to Starbucks to make friends with the baristas and to hang out / study with friends

i mean they already exist by me. With great wifi too. Starbucks just needs to catch up lol. Around here theyre barely succeeding in keeping staff numbers high enough to even be open in the afternoon let alone 24/7 lol

That's an indicator that your standards are too high, or you're not paying enough. Possibly both.

It means that one starbucks is going to have "plumbing issues" tomorrow, and maybe mysteriously burn down by the end of the month.

Yep, if they could still hire strikebreaking goons to murder organizers like the old days they absolutely would. Some of them still do in places where they can. I'm looking at you Coca Cola corporation.

They are a company first and foremost. They can pay lip service to progressive issues all they want, but worker power will never be one of them.
