Do you actually think cops stop crimes? Cops show up after the crime is already in progress or over and even then hardly ever actually help. The deterrent is the idea of cops, but police as they are aren't required for that.

They show up after it's over and then shoot your dog. Don't forget about the dog shooting that seems so important to cops.

There are numerous examples of police showing up while a situation is still escalating, and when it gets to the point of being life or death, intervention saves the victim's life.

Nobody's perfect, obviously. Lots of crimes go unpunished. But I'd rather give myself and everybody else around me a chance of survival by calling 911 rather than just hope for some kind of nondescript miracle.

Ive learned from being here the last year. Is that like 99 percent of this board dont know actually the reality of crime, police statistics, etc they all just parrot what they see from Reddit.

like how the 40 percent meme is actually false, the iq thing is false, police shootings have gone down every year, cops shooting black people have progressively gone down each year. While theyve actually gone up against white poodle. and dont even account for a half of a half of a half of a percent of Police incidents.

We literally have people who spout ACAB generalizations and at least one member who named themself that here. There are cops who are terrible and should be in prison. There are also cops who save lives and citizens praise them for their heroics. Most cops arent either extreme and basically just do their jobs. Keep in mind that these same anti-cop dipshits would have a melty if we used generalizations for other groups of people.

I think you seriously overestimate the influence, power, reach of an officer. I work for a 6k officer department. I interact with my squad of 10 and nobody else lol. And are 8/10 of Mexican and the other two are black. So I dont see these cops you all complain about. Everyone is chill. Plus, I go to every call and stop with my boy. So its not uncommon i only see him for an entire work week.

this blue wall of silence stuff is unknown to me as well. Because I dont even see who got in trouble until the monthly discipline report and even then its private for the name

The problem with this topic is the assumption that anti-gun or anti-cop is the absolute removal of those things.

People want cops to be held accountable when they do bad things. People want to know the person buying the gun is not someone who is going to try to kill someone.

But anytime anyone tries to push for better background checks on gun purchases or anything like waiting periods people act like we want to take your guns away. Or better accountability for police or even moving funds from police to better community programs is now you don't want cops.

The good cops can band together and unionize against the indiscretions of their departments, and demand change or else you all quit.

But being a loud good cop only seems to get you isolated or fired.

How about speaking up when you see a officer doing wrong? Report rouge cops when they are breaking the rules, use that badge as a symbol of help instead of hiding behind it. There are many things that can be done instead of sweeping it under the rug, and not saying shit.

Then again, seeing who I'm talking to (Gobstoppers) you would defend anything bad a cop does.

because thats where it always eventually leads when emotions take over. something happens which leads to more gun control, something happens after that which leads to more and on and on it goes. there is no "were satisfied with this" when it comes to gun control. there might be good intentions in it, but it never leads to anywhere good when more and more power gets stripped from the general citizen.

Michigan is a good recent example of this. Detroit violence put purchase permits in place. after a while that wasnt enough so they implimented a registry (this is a serious one), but oh that doesnt make much sense without universal background checks so they implemented those shortly after (all of which hasnt done jack shit). you had the open carry protests then put that on the chopping block then this recent school shooting you now have magazine limits and waiting periods being discussed (even though there is no proof it would have done anything for this specific situation). Point being that this leads to this leads to this leads to this and so on. thats why there is so much push back on literally anything on the subject.

OT: there is an obviously need for police, but in general i wouldnt put it past them to have their boot on your neck if there was a paycheck in it (or just their own twisted desires). they are the thugs of the system when it comes down to it and many join specifically because of their egos and wanting to be on a power trip. they should never be trusted and they should be held to a massively higher standard.

I'm not anti-gun, but America is fucking drowning in legally owned guns and home invaders and crime still exist. It's actually news when someone is a good guy with a gun.

Almost like having firefights all across America can actually escalate the violence and destruction.

I'm not anti gun, people just need to be smarter about what they are buying and who they are buying it for since a lot of people circumvent the laws to buy guns for minors. Without police we would probably have martial law. Which is even worse because then U.S.A. would be a communist country and we would have our right to go places etc taken away. Uncle Sam watching us like eagles 24-7 since they do that anyways.

You can probably apply the same kind of standards to doctor and malpractice coverup, but we only focus on cops so much because they make for major headlines.

Difference is, if a Doctor gets the reputation that hes not good or constantly under investigation, you can avoid using that doctor.

You dont get to pick just the good cops to come help you in a time of distress.

With uniform cops or beat cops I unfortunately think they should be or think like robots.

Can't be angry, can't be mad, can't bring home issues on the job.

Then again I've always only dealt with suit and tie or DA guys.

They've never acted like they wanted to kill me or beat my ass.
