If you're a truck driver you know what those are and what those do.
Im not a truck driver and I live in the tiny state of Hawaii and Ive seen runaway truck ramps. They have signs that say that theyre coming up too.

I do, however, think that that long of a sentence is ridiculous. I was expecting the dude to be drunk, high, racing, etc.

Mandatory law states that it had to be consecutive sentences instead of concurrent. This is probably the minimum sentence.

So why doesnt the judge suspend part of the sentence, like the fascist judges do for their friends all the time.

yeah I live in eastern MA and there just aren't there aren't many roads built into hills like that here, and if there are they usually don't even allow trucks on them

You know that feeling you get when you hear a train outside like 12 feet in front of you but there's no train, and you hear everything hitting and busting outside, and the whole place feels like it's a house of straw that's about to blow over any minute...?

Its excessive. Why not 500 years? Why not a 1000?

It wasnt even intentional. I feel in some states a younger more privileged person could do this and the judge wouldnt want it messing up their whole life so theyd get a drastically smaller sentence.

Truckers are held to a higher standard because of the risk involved. High sentences and fines are an intentional deterrent. They have to make smart choices or the repercussions are severe.

It seems extreme, but 4 people died and many more were injured. He could have done something besides slamming into them at full speed.

Based on the video provided of the truck there's no way he could have determined that from where he was.

Also not to sound like a complete asshole but if the choice is between Scenario A, where the truck ends up ramming into the back/of another truck completely off the road and Scenario B, which would be the events that actually happened, there's no way B is a better option than A.

Ok. I didn't watch the video cause I usually avoid videos of disasters. But you may have some truth there. I was just going off text info. Maybe he had to make a decision in a mere few seconds time. And he panicked and couldn't commit to crashing into the other truck

If the brakes on the truck really did fail I'm kind of curious as to how. Modern trucks have a lot of safety advancements in regards to brakes and there's literally back-up systems to the back-up systems of the back-up systems.

That being said if he did consciously choose to not take the runaway ramp then there's no way you can call this an "accident".

Pretty sure that if youre going down a hill and using the brakes the entire time they can overheat and give out. Youre supposed to drop back into a lower gear and go down hill at a snails pace

Im sure everyone shitting on the panicking semi-truck driver would be cool, calm, and collected while trying to keep a fucking barreling semi in control.

Like yeah, he does bare some fault if he missed it, especially if he did it on purpose, but theres a lot of he should have going on in here without giving the proper context of oh shit this is happening and I have to try and make snap decisions.

I feel bad for him because the incident that started this wasn't his fault, but this is literally the entire reason the ramps exist. He chose to take a gamble that instead of 100% fucking up his truck, he could take control of it elsewhere. That did not happen and now 4 people died, most likely in a very painful manner
I have sympathy for him and don't agree with the long sentence (or the policy that allows that to happen), but he's not innocent

Just wondering, even though he missed the ramp for whatever reason, couldn't he have swerved off the road? Like into trees or something instead of heading straight for traffic?

I know some mountain roads are walled on each side by rocks or cliffs so in that case he couldn't have went off-road.

I get the unjustly part in those situations, but by no means is paid leave a vacation. It's when an investigation occurs that requires the individual to not be present, and often ends up with them bring fired or reassigned/relocated. Usually 4ge former.
