They completed up to the Cell saga and it is worth watching. (I hope they one day do the Buu saga)

Sayian saga is a little juvenile, Freiza saga is were they find their footing, Android saga on is gold, better then the original.

The sub is very good, havent seen it dubbed since I was a kid. Ive been watching Super dubbed currently and Im really impressed with the voice work.

Also this. I sometimes forget that the TFS voices aren't the official voices except for Nappa in some of the newer content. It feels weird having TFS Nappa with the official voices because it's hard to take him seriously after watching the abridged series so many times.

Dubs for everything but Super because I watched Super as it aired.
I prefer the Japanese voices over the Funimation stuff, and TFS can rot in hell for not finishing.

Regardless of their arguments for the purity of subs over dubs, dubs usually are better for newer shows.

The whole subs > dubs argument mostly started back in the 80s/90s, when no one really gave much of a shit about anime, shows being ported over had almost no localization budget, and you'd wind up with amateur (at best) voice actors and half-assed translations/scripting. So dubs would generally be kind of terrible.

But now that Western money is such a huge factor in the industry as a whole, dubs get a whole lot more money and attention, and the translations aren't appreciably worse than the original. At which point the added bonuses of a) getting to hear character voices you actually understand and b) getting some cultural stuff localized to something that makes sense to you are a much bigger selling point than "purity of the original vision" or whatever other argument most weebs will scream at you.

Though the obvious big brain play is to just watch dubbed anime with the original subtitles.

I'd say Japanese but I can't tolerate that they had Masako Nozawa voice Goku for the entire duration.

Are the voices in the Dragon Ball Z dub the same as the dub of the original Dragon Ball? If so, then sub. The English voices (at least in the original Dragon Ball) are annoying.

Dub. I never liked Goku's Japanese voice actor. It just doesn't fit.

One of the few things I feel strongly about. I followed and shilled for them for over a decade.

For over a decade they had to constantly battle Toei and their copyright strikes and the constant threat of their channel and all their videos being deplatformed. I want to see the Buu saga as much as the next person, but the stress they were under for a fan project where they couldn't even make money off the videos people came to their channel to see, I understand their decision. Funimation had even hired them to provide voices on the DBZ Kai, but Toei nixed it after the fact.

Just this past month a youtuber that Toei had partnered with to create content, had every single video they have ever made hit with copyright claims from Toei.

Not to be a dick, but that's kinda the risk you take. They were already 10 years invested in the series and finally called it quits. The thing was that they dragged it on for a very long time to try and get people to watch their other (bad) series. It was a fan production that people were trying to make money off. Fan productions making money are never a good idea because the copyright holders will be rightfully pissed that they are violating IP laws. They were trying to profit off of content they did not legally own the rights to. In my opinion, matters were made worse when certain people of their group tried to get professional voice acting gigs off of the back of a fan production.

If I had to pick one I would pick sub. I grew up with both though and enjoy both.

I'm not really a db fan (or anime fan in general) but I'll always take dub. If I wanted to read I'd grab a book

They have several projects of their own now and only Dragon Shortz and HFIL are now the only properties directly tied to Dragonball, their original animations show promise but it's unclear if they are going to release any more then what they have done. It takes a long time for their animations to come out because it's one guy per project doing all the animations: Grant on Fist Masters, Kirran on Time Wizards, idk (I want to say Kaiser) on Diesel Dust. Apparently FF7MA is finished? Then there is the live action stuff, which I've only seen Unabridged and none of the new short pieces. With the announcement that the Buu saga is not coming I only checked in periodically and then the pandemic hit.

They're kinda abrasive people, and they're trying to be Rooster Teeth but their source material has been taken away. Could you imagine Red vs Blue if Microsoft had come down hard with the copyright hammer? No RWBY, no Gen:Lock, who could say if Achievement Hunter alone could have sustained them.

You can't really begrudge them that, if Toei hadn't torpedoed things, we could have gotten the entire cast of DBZA in DBZ Kai. One of the English voice cast even participated on a couple of the DBZA episodes (and movies) under the pseudonym DJSexidillionaire. I think Funimation has hired them as voice actors on other official releases. Turning a labour of love into an actual paying voice acting job is something in and of itself.

And what they have done has had an impact with Super making little nods to them in some of the scripting. I think if Toriyama had more of a say in Toei's decision making, we would have a DBZA Buu Saga.

Dubs for me. I don't like reading text when I'm watching a film or TV show as I feel I miss what's happening on screen somewhat.

Subs. I prefer to hear things how they originally were made. Original emotional inflection etc. I do not mind the dub however.

Dub, I like the Faulconer soundtrack.

That's one of the major differences in comparing modern voice acting; in Japan, the entire cast is in the booth, so when characters have a conversation it feels more natural. I can't think of any Western production where the cast is all in the booth at the same time, it's largely one actor at a time, which can lead to some of the wooden performances despite all the money the West now puts in.

they started making too much money from it, so they were ordered to stop.

even if they had done buu, it would have probably been at least 80% fan dub, because that's what most of android's/cell was

Be real, even if they had dropped the comedy and played it straight up fan dub, we still would have watched it. I mean are you going to sit there and tell me you disliked their version of the Android and Cell sagas?

I still recall the first time I heard Rock The Dragon, one of the best intros for a show, ever; it was my number one until I heard the opening for the first season of One Punch Man.

I've heard people say this before, and it's fine if she is a highly respected voice actress, but the voice just doesn't fit the character. At all. And I could link to that meme "ATATATA" video, but I'm too lazy to do so tonight.
