Try to watch it Thursday because I guarantee you'll get spoiled by Friday. The day after we missed the premiere due to car troubles, I told my dad I was watching it without him to avoid being spoiled and things appeared in three places (Google News feed, email, and social media) late that night.

It's very difficult to avoid spoilers for more than a day.

I've been able to avoid spoilers for several days before.

You know, something I've been meaning to bring up is that I find it so interesting that this is the first time they are acknowledging on the show, for the average person who probably doesn't realize it, that Survivor is filmed back-to-back, so the spring contestants haven't seen the fall season. It's interesting that they're pushing that so hard now when it comes to Jeff's stupid ideas, but didn't even mention it in 20 and instead opted for the misleading "lol look at all these dumbasses that trust Russell" narrative.

Does Daniel not realize that the idol would be rehidden if Mike goes? He seems to think that that's Vati's only idol and if it's gone, it's gone.

Jonathan is beast mode.

That was really dumb on her part. But I guess the producers are happy that their twists are having the intended effects.

Jonathan in that challenge was incredible. He won the challenge by himself. Period.

And, yes, WHAT THE HELL CHANELLE? She comes back to camp and says she doesn't have a vote... she quickly realized she messed up, because of what she'd said to Omar. And she's panicking like crazy. What a disaster.

That was really disappointing. Daniel sucks.

Poor Jenny. She was the only one of the four who didn't make a mistake, and she paid for everyone else's.

Is Mike's mistake related to the idol?

Chanelle and Daniel royally messed up. Neither is winning this after this disaster. Chanelle losing her vote is... like duh. Daniel looked very sketchy. Wouldn't surprise me if Mike asked Hai and Lydia to vote Daniel out, but he'd have to explain why. I think Hai distrusts Chanelle more. Daniel bussing her was believable given how she acted returning from the summit and how she was acting during the tie discussion.

No. It's pretty bad, and completely pointless. I will normally watch a show to completion after starting it, and I genuinely have no desire to do so here.

Mike didn't really make a mistake, but losing his vote from finding the idol did more to Jenny going than anything she did. Plus, he made it sound like he wouldn't have activated it even if someone from Ika found the idol and said their phrase, which would've been a mistake if it happened.

By "pointless" I take it you mean that they dropped these C- and D-list celebrities in the jungle for the sake of dropping celebrities in the jungle, and not to play a game or anything. Do they do... anything? Like why would CBS think this show is meaningful?

I went into S42 a casual and I am loving it so far. So at least there's something since I hardly cared about TAR33, didn't watch CBB3, and lost interest in Survivor AU because of how atrocious it was. S42 so far has been what I live for.

From what I can tell, they basically took the Edge of Extinction and made it its own show. Except that there's challenges every episode that the celebrities play in for charity.

I feel terrible for Jenny but, look, I am stanning Lydia hard this season and I need her to stick around. Hai was absolutely right about everything though and through some luck and a lot of really really REALLY good hard reads just absolutely blew apart the other alliance.

I'm really glad Lydia didn't go out there since I lost Zack on the first day. That was a rough tribal, holy shit Daniel. I already liked Hai to start with and this only boosted him higher. Willing to go to rocks to protect his alliance and his own life. If he swaps he's gone next. I hope him and Lydia stay strong to make the merge and beyond! :)

I was praying to GOD that they didn't do that stupid 1-Mike 3-Jenny business. Daniel got out swindled by Hai so hard in the span of like 10 minutes.

Though it ended up being unfortunate in the end since Jenny was like my 4th or 5th favorite. I was in a lose lose situation there with it being my 1 vs my 4. I actually really wanted it to go to rocks since I would have had a 3/4 chance of someone I don't care about going out.

Daniel didn't want to go to rocks, so Hai said "Well I'd do it." The moment Daniel said that stupid statement, it was over. He had no bargaining power after that (as Probst and Wentworth have both pointed out). He put himself on the defensive. Best approach is to ask Hai "Do you want to go to rocks?" and, if Hai said "Do you?" reply with "If it comes down to it, sure. Now, answer the question." He needs to go on the offensive there. The moment he put his defenses up instead made it so Hai could go on the attack and pursue him. Daniel needed to do the pursuing and now he's in a bind.

Needless to say, I'd be scared shitless of going to rocks on Day 7 unless I felt I was next to go if I changed my vote, so I don't blame Daniel. It's just that his amateurism showed its full colors here. Chanelle has less trust and agency than Daniel so I think she could be a consensus boot if Vati ends up at Tribal again. Which they might, given this cluster.

Lydia carried them in the calling/blindfold challenge honestly. I wouldn't be surprised to see them back at Tribal next week yeah.

That being said, I would absolutely go to rocks on Day 7 if it meant protecting my only other ally. It's actually more important early on because there's a very good chance you'll see another tribal and you are absolutely on the outs now if you swapped in Hai's case.

Closer to merge? Less so since you could scrape your way to the merge and forge new alliances then.

In Daniel's case? I also think swapping was better too, but his whole argument and tribal was one of the worst I've ever seen lol

This is why I don't like Jeff revealing who didn't have a vote. It's something you should be able to lie about. Production shouldn't get involved.

Yeah, this is what I was trying to say. I'd be scared, but I'd rather play Russian Roulette than be a guaranteed goner. That's why Hai had more power: He had the most to gain by going to rocks. If he loses Lydia, he's screwed.

Of course, everyone is anticipating a swap. Nobody knows that S41 was the first season without any kind of swap in a decade. That fact still amazes me.

Ika had to be purple. What could have been trimmed to give us two minutes of what was going on there? They couldn't cut out Maryanne finding treasure or any of the Taku fallout. They couldn't get rid of anything from Vati because that played into the Tribal. They couldn't cut back on that insane challenge (or Jonathan winning it solo). And they needed every second of that Tribal for it to make sense.

And yes, that was a fantastic episode. This season is crazy good so far and I hope production doesn't ruin it (but that may be too much to ask, since I'm anticipating more crap like 41 had).

With the way the consensus worked, they kind of had to reveal themselves. Although I guess they could've not done it and let Chanelle and Mike try to bluff their way into getting what they wanted, but Daniel knew that Mike couldn't vote and I doubt either Daniel or Chanelle could pull that off given what I saw of them last episode.

Finally watched the episode last night. I think it says a lot about how badly Survivor has dwindled in cultural relevance that I went over 100 hours doing the bare-ass minimum to avoid spoilers and the ONLY thing I got spoiled on a tiny bit was catching a glimpse of the next episode's promo at the gym and seeing Daniel and I think Rocksroy, neither of which was particularly a TC suspense-killer.

That certainly was a TC.

I dont think they had to reveal who didnt have votes, just that some people didnt have votes so it didnt matter what these people would choose.

I don't think there was nothing they could cut but I agree that if they did it may be a lesser product if they showed the 3rd team doing nothing of consequence. But does this mean there's no chance anyone on that team will win the game?

Hai was totally badass if he was supposed to vote for Mike but switched his vote based on his reads. Daniel was a mess and I love it

Yeah, it's four episodes in and we need an explanation for why they made Tori's idol find (yeah) a non-spoiler (featuring it in the previews and first minute of the premiere). That completely ruined the suspense in the episode.

I went in wondering how she was going to survive until they showed Swati telling everyone that they're her number one and then I knew it was done and lost interest.
