It feels like everyone just works it into every conversation now and I think its really annoying. I don't understand why people get so worked up about this stuff.

I've been subscribed to this guy on youtube for a year or 2 who used to make prank videos, but a couple of months ago he became a hardcore christian conservative and now almost all of his videos are just him posting BS about anti vax nonsense, conspiracies about Joe Biden and shitting on trans people. I was hoping that he was just parodying people like that at first, but now its clear that he really means everything that he's saying so I finally got around to unsubscribing.

I wish everyone would just chill the fuck out instead of screeching about this nonsense all the time.

Is it nonsense, or is it that the human rights of specific groups of people are under attack and people with empathy genuinely care about it?

People always have been. It's just that as you've grown up, the people you pay attention to have grown older as well, and as such often have more at stake.

Sometimes I kind of hate it when it gets brought up in stuff that's generally non-political like how some youtubers, for example do it. Sometimes I just want to enjoy my time and don't want to be reminded of it even if I agree with the person I'm watching/listening to.

Otherwise, it's good that more people are thinking of politics. It affects the lives of many, many people. I don't know why some like to downplay it like it's just opinions of a TV show or something.

Getting riled up at every minutiae that happens in politics is dumb

The things that actually matter get overshadowed by people shrieking about what this, that or the other one said. Or how they fell up some stairs or how they ripped some papers

That kind of shit matters very little, and it's the kind of shit people like to bitch about

Turns out, all you need to get people into politics is the very definition of a corrupt politician becoming president that turns out he's super fucking incompetent and has no clue what he's doing, lies every single day, then tries to subvert democracy when he loses his re-election.

Ignoring all the arguing that's been going on surrounding Covid, what are these important things that are effecting everyone? To me it just seems like everyone is pissed off all the time now even though things are pretty much the same as they've always been. Are these serious conversations accomplishing anything?

I'm black. The protests that happen after these events never change anything. It's just an excuse for people to feel important. I don't know what the actual solution to the issue is, but protests and posting hash tags online clearly isn't it. It's really hard for me to care anymore when I hear these stories because I know that nobody will actually do anything to prevent it from happening in the future

people aren't really passionate about politics at all. it'd be great if they were.

people are passionate about an irrational culture war that's become a stand-in for politics as they've lost all political agency whatsoever; the intensity of this war grows each year that their material conditions worsen as a result of capitalism's diminishing ability to extract (read: exploit) profit from new frontiers.

People said that Reagan, Bush 1, and Clinton were the antichrist. They've said that "the war" was right around the corner. They've said that Bush 2 and Obama were going to end democracy and establish dictatorships.

The only thing new under the sun are the people like the ones responsible for 1/6. This has happened in other countries before, but it's new to America. (Unless there's a chapter in American history I've forgotten about.)

I'm actually sick and tired of politics. People will harm their fellow man and believe lies over truth just because their side tells them to. There are so many topics where politics has no place beyond protecting freedom. Not believing in reality isn't a position. It's wrong and stupid and tangibly harmful. Keep the opinions to opinionated matters.

Historically speaking, on the surface it often seems that way right up until the overthrow. In reality if you're aware of what the political climate was like in the preceeding years in those places a very clear pattern starts to emerge and it looks pretty similar to where we're at now.

That's not to say for certain that it's gonna happen here but I think a lot of people are rightfully worried that we're on a tragic path. Especially as you consider the coming effects of climate change

Yeah, like others said, it's not that people are more into politics. They're just obsessed with the whole right vs left thing.

Which is why lots of people's argument falls apart when faced with which side it's supposed to be on. There's no consistency and misinformation and clout chasing are just making it worse.

I think there's something to be said for advances in technology making the news cycle much faster than it was in the past. 30 years ago, most people received whatever political updates there were via the morning paper and the evening news. Any information they received on political goings on had to fit within those pretty small confines, or be big enough (say, the president getting shot) to break into daytime TV.

With the advent of 24-hour cable news and then the internet, people can consume significantly more political coverage than at any point prior. The internet has also allowed people to speak with more people than ever before, and to discover more perspectives than ever before.

It seems only natural that these trends would have a politicizing effect.
