Resurrections wasnt as bad as everyone made it out to be. Wasnt as self-serious and tedious as Reloaded and Revolutions and had lots of fresh and interesting ideas. The action sequences were the only thing lacking, it felt like the camera work and editing were so shaky and all over the place. Reloaded and Revolutions action sequences were better choreographed and easier to follow. Also it wouldve been dope to have Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving back in to reprise their roles, but overall the new movie was way more interesting and entertaining than the sequels.

Resurrections feels like such a different thing that it's hard for me to compare it to the originals.

I enjoyed it, and had the same issues with the action scenes.

I'd probably switch reloaded and resurrections in your ranking, but hard to say after just a day after it.

I've noticed a strange shift the past few years where people claim 1 > 2 > 3 as best to worst, whereas it was always 1 > 3 > 2.

I was trying to watch the entire series before Thursday, but I only made it to Matrix 2, so maybe 3 would have aged better for me too after the re-watch. I found myself really enjoying the fight scenes in Matrix 2 while watching it.

Also a crime how forgotten the Animatrix is, which I would put a very very close 2nd to the original Matrix.

Was this same directors ?

Yeah but the popular opinion at the time outside of professional reviews was "2 and 3 are bad, but the action scenes in 3 made it a better movie than 2 which was straight up dog ass."

Reminds me of how when the disney star wars movies were coming out, the prequel trilogy went through a big love fest online, when they were previously considered horrible.

Okay, that was a long time ago, but I definitely don't remember ever hearing anyone say that. 2 absolutely has better action scenes than 3. I remember making fun of the DBZ style fight scene at the end with my friends.

I rewatched the first three movies this past week and was bored out of my mind during Revolutions. Reloaded was decent and better than I remember (the action sequences are incredible), but Revolutions had nothing going for it besides the Neo/Smith fight. The Zion battle felt dragged out and repetitive, and all the dialogue scenes/character interactions felt super cliche and hollow.

Ive never seen The Animatrix but Ive heard its good, really need to check it out.

Reloaded has some excellent action scenes that put newer films to shame

I feel like you might be confusing 2 and 3? 2 was definitely the movie that was "bad but the action scenes are awesome." I don't remember any particularly good action scenes in 3 apart from maybe the final Smith encounter.

Reloaded had amazing action scenes. No one can deny that. Criticize the story all day long, but the action was great. Whoever said Revolutions had better action than Reloaded must be on crack or something.

Reloaded has always been underrated, if only for the action scenes. The Neo vs Smiths fight (so long as you can overlook the PS2 graphics), the highway chase (an all time action scene, IMO, and Neo vs the vampires are all a lot of fun.
