I think the main dumb thing about ties is that you actually have to tie it in some specific way. I feel like clip ons or pre-tied ties should be more acceptable.

It's not a big deal. I like leaving the top button of my shirt unbuttoned and then pulling the tie up to cover it. It looks a little more casual
