He sent me a message through eBay to ship it to another city in Florida.

Would it be safe to do if he sent the message to do this through eBay or should I tell him nope?

I feel like its a scam. Youre really not supposed to do that.

Thats why I always make sure to put in a item description to make sure the address is correct as I wont ship to a different one.

Refuse it. Tell him he can either send it there once he receives the item himself or you can cancel/refund and have him repurchase and input that shipping address.

Yeah I'll give him until tomorrow morning to message me back. If nothing then I'll cancel. I wonder if he'd try to leave negative feedback

I'll give him some time to respond and see if he says it's ok to use the registered address. I could probably dispute any negative feedback since he's asking me to break eBay policy.

Just looked up the address he wants it sent to and it's a restaurant. He said it's where he works. Still seems too risky. Told him I'll cancel and he can repurchase if he wants.

Ive seen this before. People steal accounts and get it sent to a place that they know, where the person who picks up the package cannout be tracked. They also have them sent to AirBnBs and wait for it to arrive to scoop it up.
Dude probably has a friend that works there thats in on it.

Dont send it.

Could be. I could call the restaurant and ask for him since I have the name on the account and see if he really works there. Then hang up. lol

Do not do it. And report the buyer. Asking to ship to another address is one of the options in the drop down for reporting buyers.

Doesn't matter where the other address is, safe or not, if it wasn't what was inputted in the shipping address when he committed to buy, don't send it there. Just wait for the response. Your only options will then be either cancel completely and relist, cancel and have him rebuy with the corrected address, or send it to the original address.

You do not need nor should you call the restaurant or wherever.

He's asking how long it would take for money to be available after a refund. I'm like fuck if I know, I think within 24 hours if PayPal was used. I guess I need to put in the description verified addresses only next time.

Nah dont do it. Thats shady and they could claim they never received it. They have the option to choose where to ship the item to when they purchase the item. eBay will side with you if the buyer trys anything, but itll just be a hassle for you to deal with. Best to avoid the possible risk.

I don't think I really can without a good reason now. I posted the serial number in the auction in case someone tries to swap it or something.

Maybe he was legit afraid someone would take it and wanted it sent to work, but didn't do it the right way. Then he didn't want to wait for the refund process to get a switch.

I still wouldn't do it. As soon as I get a buyer that wants me to ship to a different address than the one on their account I go straight to cancelling their order, reporting them to eBay, and adding them to my blocked buyer list. eBay hates its sellers, and you shouldn't take the slightest chance with a sketchy buyer.

Just too much risk for me, and it's not like a switch is hard to sell.

If its a signature required piece, is shipped through USPS, and he is not available when delivery is attempted we just leave a notification slip for him to retrieve it from the post office. So theft shouldnt be a concern

I looked under the report buyer options and asking to ship to another address wasn't there. Maybe it was at one point. I'm hoping this guy is just a relative noob who doesn't know how things work. His account is 8 years old but he has 29 feedback so he apparently doesn't use eBay a lot.

He said don't worry about requiring a signature when I mentioned it. Which is fine for me since all eBay needs is delivery confirmation, and they have him on record now refusing that service.

It's been a couple years since I last had to do it, but I assume there should be an option to report a scammer or for violating eBay policies. Or maybe eBay just doesn't give a fuck anymore because $$$.

The thing is if he wanted it shipped to a different address then he could have put that address in at checkout. There's a reason he can't or won't add that address to his account as an alternative address. It's easy to do and you can even do so while checking out. It's super sketch that he messages you after paying asking you to deliver it to a different address. Him not wanting signature at his default address for a high value item is also pretty sketchy. Possibly going to steal it from that address because a stolen account/card or w/e.

Just isn't worth the potential headache to me, but I also put no faith in eBay backing me up as a seller even with plenty of evidence. I've been burned by them fucking me over.

You make some valid points. As it stands now, he's asking for it to be shipped to the account's legit address. He won't be home so doesn't want a sig required. As long as it gets there I don't think it would matter to me if the account was hacked or whatever. That would fall on eBay and they'd have to reimburse him.
