Is there any way to limit frame rates on PC? I started up Assassins Creed 1 just to test it out and Im getting 1000+ FPS would be cool, but honestly it makes things feel off. My monitor is 144 hz so is there any way I can limit my fps to anywhere between 60-144 hz? I feel like that would help the game look and play more natural.

Sounds good and looked it up, apparently vsync introduces input lag. Is that Im all cases or only when the game has trouble running in the first place?

I think technically in all cases, but it's more than likely something you would absolutely not notice unless you're a professional competitive gamer maybe.

How does it feel off? Unless you're noticing screen tearing it's not going to look any different with frames limited to 144

I doubt it'll be noticeable, typically input lag is only something you worry about in stuff like fighting games or twitch shooters

Go to Nvidia settings. Find Global settings. In there is Max Frame Rate. Set it to whatever you want

I have to limit it at times because some games are poorly optimized and run as high as they can when there is no need. I especially hate games that do that when you alt tab

Vsync will cap at your refresh rate, or you can set a max frame rate in Nvidia control panel (haven't used an AMD card so not sure about them)

the intro credits of the 3D Ubisoft logo was SUPER weird looking. Looked all laggy, not smooth. After looking up screen tearing, thats pretty much what it was.

I found Vertical Sync in the NVIDIA control panel. Theres also an option to set Max Frame Rate. Should I set that to 144?

what would be better, setting Max Frame Rate to 144 with no VSync, turning on VSync with no frame rate cap, or turning on VSync and ALSO setting max frame rate to 144?

And is it normal for some games to have inherent frame caps? Im using Ass Creed and Wolfenstein New Order as the test games and depending on the settings, they cap themselves at 30/60 FPS

I looked up how the Ass Creed intro cutscene is supposed to look and apparently its supposed to be all stuttery in spots. With that in mind, 1000fps doesnt look bad at all, but it doesnt look any better than 144 or 60fps either.

1000fps is nonsense, but you can probably notice up to 288 or something like that.

Also side note, but a pop up saying Press Alt+Z for GeForce Performance Overlay always pops up when starting a game. Any way I can disable that?

sounds like you have their program running (don't need to), i would disable it and disable it on start-up as well.

should I keep my frame limit at 144 or is there an option to allow the frame rate to be determined by each individual game? I think that would be ideal.

Open up Nvidia Geforce Experience. I can't remember if they require you to sign in for the settings, but go to the settings in the top right corner. There's a section for In-Game Overlay. Click the settings for that. Scroll down to Notifications. Click to disable "Open/close in-game overlay."
