Do people still really believe in it? I can't tell if they "practice" it in the same vein as cosplaying (i.e. indulging make-believe just for the fun of it), or if they really think spells/magic/etc. are real. And I don't mean any disrespect to anyone who does believe in magic; I'm just wondering what the general attitude of modern witchcraft is. Because frankly, I thought genuine belief in spells and stuff died out a very long time ago...

I was inspired to make this topic after learning that my friends sister apparently studies witchcraft, and it really unsettles the family because she straight-up performs rituals and stuff (with candles, stones, and all that jazz). Shes 27

Don't really believe in it, but it's an interesting subject.

To my knowledge, a lot of people do it with the knowledge that it doesn't do anything but make them feel like they've done something, or, as they put it, "centering themselves".

More honest than more (culturally) traditional religions, at least.

It's a LARP. It's a quirky way to express their personality.

Those "energy crystals" might be snake oil, but they probably wont hurt anything that they're not thrown at

Yup, thats precisely what I was wondering: Is it more of a feel good thing that isnt really meant to be taken literally, or do they truly believe they have supernatural abilities?

And I agree that it seems harmless enough, but the family is rather conservative, so the whole thing just kinda freaks em out. They dont know what to make of it, or how she got into it in the first place.

I've gotta agree with this. It's why I don't hate on astrology or tarot. You don't have to actually believe in magical predictions to understand feelings you have after being told certain things. It's like a Myer Briggs or whatever. Something to stimulate self reflection.

I used to be into a religion called Wicca

I can't speak for all people into "witchcraft ", but in Wicca the "spells" usually are just prayers. At least that's how I did it. I never did any rituals. Its was more like meditation

Yes, people believe in it. My ex girlfriend practiced witchcraft seriously. She was a part of a coven which is a gathering of witches. These people would get together weekly to do spells and so on. There are multiple covens in every major United States city. You just have to look for them honestly.

Personally, I do not believe in magic. Witches can say it's real all they want but I have to see it in order to believe it and none of these people have provided any proof. This didn't cause a strain my ex and I's relationship. Most witches accept that people don't believe in it.

Despite not believing in it, it is interesting watching witches draw incantations on the ground and do their spells. Some of them are very knowledgeable about herbs and religion so you can definitely learn a lot from just talking to witches about their craft. Just try to keep an open mind if you ever meet one. It's what I did. And keep a straight face the entire time.

Witchcraft/ Astrology is usually for fat chicks.
