I don't think I can rate any Elder Scrolls story. They're just so...not there.

The main quest? It's pretty bad. Also a big letdown compared to Morrowind, where there was freedom and branching paths. The idea of going into Oblivion gates is decent, but the rest of it, including the fact that Martin steals your thunder at the end and the people of the world pretty much never acknowledge you after it's over is kinda rank.

People usually include side quests and dialogue between characters in these topics, I think.

I mean, it's okay, and it has one of the most ridiculous Sean Bean deaths in its climax, but the story in an Elder Scrolls game is merely what's holding it together. There are a bunch of interesting episodic sidequests (the paranoid schizophrenic elf comes to mind) and the world-building is pretty dang good, but the actual sequence of events is lacking. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as this is a game built around exploring and dungeon-raiding as opposed to plot.

5/10 for the writing

6/10. The main story is incredibly whatever but it makes up for it with a bunch of the best side stories and worldbuilding youll find anywhere.

The thing is that even good Oblivion's side quests feel disconnected from the world at large. They don't feel like part of a cohesive whole.
