Something about catching omicron + being vaccinated, and trying to protect people with compromised immune systems because the variant is too out of hand to stop.

a lot of people getting sick means a lot of people will die. a lot of the people that will die are among the most vulnerable in society. essentially, what's happening is eugenics. I won't speak for anyone else, but I do not think that's a good thing.

other things to consider:
-with that many people contracting covid, there's almost certainly going to be another variant
-there's no evidence (or at least none that I've seen) to suggest that contracting this variant actually develops immunity to any significant extent
-this variant came about in the first place because the vaccines are largely patented by corporations whose primary concern is generating profit. this is greatly harming vaccination rates in poorer countries -- that is, the countries that were already the most negatively effected by the virus. those patents are still in place, and there's nothing to suggest that they will change

no, that's just B.1.640.2 again. no evidence that it's more infectious than omicron, though there is at least one blatantly misleading headline which suggests otherwise. it has more mutations but has also been under monitoring since November and has only been sequenced like 20 times since then
