I tend to button mash even when I try to play methodically and end up doing moves I don't want to. I guess it comes with practice being able to avoid doing that.

Try and think of it like Dance Dance Revolution in terms of correctly timing the inputs.

You'll get more consistent this way.

Yeah, I started noticing this during training, it's just tough for me to put into practice in actual matches.

Did you get in on the whole Tough Love Arena thing that caught on here for a bit? Great game to train from the bottom up.

I used to be good at them as a kid, knew all the moves in Mortal Kombat and early Street Fighter games. When I was in the military, the only arcade cabinet on post was the first Guilty Gear, I sank hundreds of dollars in quarters into that machine. My interest in fighting games is basically gone and I don't know why, i've barely touched one in the last 10 years unless it's just a couple quick, casual games with the nephews or something.

Just try to do it one situation. Sometimes I'll learn something advanced and get it down in training mode, and when it comes to a match, there's so much going on that I don't do it. I have to sometimes tell myself at the beginning of the round "Just try X once", and it slowly gets incorporated. Also helps to play worse people cause you're a little calmer to do that.

Yeah, you only have so much mental room to juggle everything, so an opponent you can usually beat makes it easier to incorporate to your real repertoire.

On the flipside, being able to do that stuff, in the situations where it is called for, is more important than being able to style on lesser players.

it's not the moves you can do, it's the moves you can use.
