Bed Bath and Beyond receiving. We had a time limit on how fast you had to be slicing up boxes and emptying shit out onto the conveyor belt. This took place at the actual store. You had to be REALLY fucking fast. If you weren't fast enough you had to write on a paper and explain why you were slow that day and it went straight to corporate. You had to fill out that paper every single day you were slow. Even if one minute late. Not one minute late to your shift, one minute late of not finishing the whole pallet fast enough.

A box of metal forks seems easy to empty out right? Well guess what. Each fork has a twistie tie and a plastic sleeve. Things just got 50x harder for you.

The dude I worked with had sliced up boxes for 14 years and he was hoping he'd get promoted to manager one day.

He told me "you don't wanna lose this job dude. Trust me. "

The next day during our unpackaging I told him "hey I gotta go to the restroom" and he said "alright...." like saying "uh dude we are on a time limit what are you doing?" I left my radio behind where he didn't see and I just left the building and never returned lol. I texted him saying "sorry dude this isn't for me" and I blocked his number and went to gamestop, bought two games, and went home. Lol.

I work at a state park now one year later lmao.

If you can do something like that for 14 years theres no way theyre going to promote you. They might not be able to replace you with someone as spineless.

To get promoted you have to be good at your job, but replaceable; be a company person; and good at giving orders without giving a shit about other people.

Quit my job cleaning interstate rest areas once because the manager had an affair with my dad. Then got mad at me for taking my mom's side(not even causing problems, just saying she's right to be angry). Manager told me to choose a side, stay and support her, or quit and side with my mom. So I said bye and left.
That manager was fired a few months later and they asked me to come back, which I did.

Also, similar situation at my current job. I quit from this place years ago when a thieving manager set me up for the cash drawer to be missing some cash. I saw it coming and told my coworkers that if that happens that I'm not staying. So, I swapped shifts with someone. Lo and behold, the drawer came up short and that person was on the hook for it. They threw a fit on her, and I knew it wouldn't stop until he got me in trouble. So me and this other person both quit.
Though, a year later I was still struggling to find a job. I was told corporate gutted the management and a new team was in charge. So I went back and they rehired me. The new team was amazing and I loved it. This past summer though it happened again, management team was fired and replaced with the old team again. Now I'm literally fighting each day to not quit, I hate it do much now.

Got hired at one of those Halloween stores that pop up during the season. Day 1 was unloading a truck while management watched. Then they made us organize what we had unloaded. It would've been dramatically easier to organize them as we unloaded if we had any idea of where they would like them. I told them my frustrations.

Day 2 was setting stuff up. Management put together some steel lattice walls that they held together with a single zip tie. They unsurprisingly fell down on a girl. Then in the middle of us putting out items they realized that they forgot to tell us to do double coverage. It needed to be redone. This would've been less irritating had they not been standing around and talking about what they were going to do for lunch.

At that point I told them it's not for me and clocked out and left. The GM called me the next day to get a clearer picture and ask if I'd reconsider. I wasnt interested.

Sounds a lot like my current job. I can't tell you how many people I've had scream at me on the phone, hang up on me, or just be super hostile and catty.

Best part is that this is a production-based job. So if I don't complete units, I don't get paid. Fun fact: that was mentioned no where in the job listing and only briefly mentioned in the interview. Love it. I'm going to stay here for a few months and then start looking for something better.

Why they gut management and re-gut management?
First time was because they discovered that management was severely fudging the numbers to look better. Everything looked good on paper until they took a closer look and realized that serious issues were being ignored and brushed under the rug to avoid paying anything out and then get the bosses a bigger end of year bonus. All the managers were immediately terminated. It was a couple months later that I went back.

The new team was fantastic. I loved working with them. They actually fixed the issues and treated employees as people rather than work mules. But, Covid really hit the travel business hard. So the numbers were way down from the previous years. Also, as soon as they got the funds to fix an issue, they'd fix it rather than cover it up and pretend to not need it. So, when the owners came back in for a new assessment they didn't like the numbers they saw and fired them on the spot. Another quit shortly after. So they brought in the previous team to pump the numbers back up,band they're immediately back to their old shady garbage and will fire anyone that doesn't help cover things up. First time it becomes an issue for me and they say anything, I'm walking.

Also, naturally the week after they brought them back travel restrictions were loosened and we were absolutely slammed and sold out every single night for months(at ridiculously jacked up prices too)... So the owners think the managers did it, even though it was completely obvious it was a coincidence.

Ive quit many crappy jobs

Call center for a big national bank during the 2009 recession. People screaming at me over their overdraft fees or begging me to stop their checks when it was too late. Some thought I was at a physical location and would scream at me to go get their check from the atm. Quit after two months

Sales engineer job that was really customer service and they knew it. Had me just taking orders and following up on shipping constantly. The dudes were super nice but very chatty with me it was a drain. Quit after 3 months.

Another sales engineer job but it was obvious they werent going to do well financially and they started laying off their outside sales people. I knew I wasnt going to make the minimum required to make commission. Also my boss was kind of crazy. I loved her on a personal level we got along, but she was type A and micro managing. Quit after 3 months.

The worst was one was support for engineers in the field. Male engineers would laugh at getting a woman on the phone, argue that my solution was incorrect, call back and get a male on the line who would tell them the exact same thing and they would get praised. I had no formal training unlike every other on my team (who was male) who were flown out for 2 weeks hands on training with our products. Despite that, my numbers for cases closed and customer satisfaction were the best but management brushed that off as my empathy and not technical ability. Then I got a sexist manager who targeted me and made my life hell. I quit on the spot one day, over a year into it.

Oh and then there was the one where the engineers (male again) knew I was on a TN visa and used that to make me do bitch work and laugh about it. I know this because another engineer came to me to watch out because he overheard them talking about taking advantage of my status because I couldnt say anything back or risk leaving the country. That was fun too

Haven't quit my job yet but I'm seriously considering it. I work for an ISP handling inbound calls and it's just grueling dealing with bullshit all the time. Some people are pleasant but a lot of people calling in are just nasty assholes that want to bitch at you. It doesn't help that a lot of time their frustrations come from service prices and fees rising all the time because corporate only cares about profits. They know they don't have to deal with the fallout so they'll keep increasing costs.

And then we often get newish customers that are calling in complaining that their monthly bill doesn't match their contract because the sales rep didn't explain all the hidden fees that are included so now I have to deal with that bullshit and tell them their bill $50 higher because of fees when it could have been avoided.

Actually, that's not true.

There was one job I had working for a guy where he'd get orders online and I'd fill them.
He sold used books and whatnot.

It was a very laid-back environment with maybe 2 other people working for him.
It barely qualified as part-time, though. Like maybe 3-4 hours three times a week.

Every actual corporate job I've had was shit, though.

This is why I quit my job at Sprint. I was a sales consultant and I spent a lot of time cleaning up the messes of other consultant. People would sign people up on promotional deals without telling them once that promotional period ends your bill is going through the roof. They didnt care because it would be a year until that happened and theyd probably be gone.

I had to leave. Besides that there was other shady shit going on. The shadiest people sold the most so they actually got praised which was insane to me.

Reminds me of my job at Kohl's. We had the managers force us to get credit card applications constantly. Every 20 minutes they'd walk up to you and ask you how many credits you have.

Which meant how many people have you successfully gotten to apply for a credit card? And they'd tell you "it doesn't matter if they're approved! They just have to do the application even if they're denied it still counts."

So they'd ask us to tell our friends and get anyone to apply. We had a thing where if they applied, we could give them "UP TO 30 percent off" because we had scratch offs. If they scratch and win a 15 percent too bad. So what we had to do is guarantee them 30 percent off to get them to apply. We were not allowed to do this.

But it was the only way to come out on top. So another girl and I became the best employees with the most credits and I got employee of the month for that.

What was our reward for getting credits? Extra cash? A promotion? No. Our reward was chocolate bars.

But really the reason we pushed it is so that the managers don't look at you like you're a disappointment. You feel awful when you don't get any. And they schedule you less. So in a dark way the reward was more money because you wouldn't get scheduled otherwise.

Thankfully if I had a bad credit day they'd let it slide because they knew I was amazing other days.

I will say though that the employee discount at Kohl's was pretty kick ass. You can combine your employee discount with any coupon. So you can combine 15 percent and 30 percent off for an almost 45 percent off of anything that is not already on sale. It was the one redeeming thing we had aside from having amazing co workers.

A local grocery store in my hometown. The owner refused to pay the waste management bill for weeks, then when they finally came and emptied the dumpsters, he had me go out and clean up what was left laying around.

I was given a trash bag and a shovel. No PPE, in 90 degree weather. Most of the other employees didn't even know I was out there. I worked one more day, slowly realized how fucked up it was, and never went back.

And the crazy thing was, I worked at Walmart some years later, and that place was way worse.

The next day I clocked in, went on craigslist and applied to jobs while taking my sweet fucking time, called on my break, got an interview and I clocked out to drive down. Got the job same day and they treated my so fucking well for a warehouse job, days off, holidays, pto, sick days, and significant Christmas/monthly bonuses to boot.

First was a baker at Panera, needed a few credits after 4 years in college so took a community college class that summer. I had one class at 8am and took the baking job which ran from 10-6. You got a ton of free food each shift and my plan was to get off, shower, go to class then sleep all day. The job had enough downtime I could study during my shift.

That all depended on working at the location they advertised and told me Id be working at. The day my training ends I get told Ill be working at a location 45 minutes away which fucks up my whole plan. I asked why they lied and the supervisor told me its not my decision where I work so I quit right there.

The year is 2007:

This also reminds me of the time I applied to work at Gamestop, getting told I would make 12 bucks an hour as a "third key" (assistant assistant manager).

I interview. I complete their survey. I come back for a second part of the interview. I fill out the employee paperwork.

As I am turning im my paperwork to the manager, I am told that I would, actually, be making minimum wage (7.25).

I left dumbfounded and told them to fuck off, the next day, over the phone.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

Worked at McDonald's for 3 weeks...
-Paid below minimum wage
-wasn't trained at all even tho I was told I'd receive 2-3 weeks with someone standing with me to show me the ropes
- Manager verbally abused me because I didn't know what I was doing
- there were no instructions etc about what goes on what burger etc

Left considered legal action against them then realised they weren't worth it...got my current job a month and a half later and been with then for 10.5 years now
Where do you work now?
