Big corporations and restaurants never shut down. For small business or bar owners, try telling them how much of a "minor inconvenience" that shit was.

Then again plenty of small businesses and bars in my area continued to operate as normal in March 2020 with local police doing absolutely nothing to stop them. Mixed feelings on that for sure, but it's like, the state wasn't paying their damn bills for them, so have at it

I've seen more businesses open during covid than close down, but admittedly it might just be my area

We just got through national championship in indy and colts missed playoffs, people here think its gonna happen soon.

my buddy got hired on to be a school bus driver. He was a former glazier (window installer).

The pay is $16/hr and he gets paid for 5 hours a day, but works 7am-9am and 2pm-5pm.

but can't do shit between 9-2 when you factor in commute and etc.

one of the worst jobs ever, basically a "keep busy" job for a secondary income earner

Yea my wife was a bus driver while my kids were too young for school because she was able to take them to work so we didn't have to pay for child care.

It's still the smartest thing to do of course, but I do understand how people feel ripped off who just took a third shot and got sick as hell anyway.

First 2 shot, yeah, it's like 20% against Omicron lol.
But booster is still apparently still effective. A lot of it is timing as well, since you're not fully boosted for 2 weeks, and lots of folks are still getting them or have just gotten it.

Idont understand it at all, personally. People I know who have been in car accidents have never felt ripped off by the seatbelt manufacturers because it would be utterly nonsensical to do so.

About 85% of Covid hospitalizations are unvaccinated patients.

Vaccinated people that are getting the Omnicron variant are experiencing minimal symptoms. Some are being infected and not having symptoms at all. Which is the goal of the vaccine. It a vaccine, not a cure.

If the US had an 80-90% vaccination rate instead of the 60-ish we have now, we would be in a MUCH better place.

Calling it the "disease of the unvaccinated" is not just a scare tactic. It's the truth.

Schools can easily be virtual. Im talking about businesses. Essential or not I just dont see them shutting down.

Protect the economy at all costs. Force teachers back into schools

My school is going full virtual for just this week. They said the same thing last year though, and we know how that went.

I hope we shut down again. The amount of students and staff getting sick is insane.

We won't have any massive shutdowns. This country values money way too much for that. There will be some places that literally don't have enough healthy people and will close temporarily, but government mandated shutdowns won't occur. We never had a proper shutdown to begin with. Yay capitalism?

lol schools are not equipped to go virtual. Kids dont learn from home. Doesnt work. And is even harder for younger kids.

Sending them to school in these conditions doesn't work either, is the thing, but does result in a lot less sickness and long COVID roulette.

I honestly think it depends on the age, and how much new material the kids are truly learning.

Other than Math and specialty classes like Tech and computer sciences, once you get past 4th grade, everything is just different levels of reading comprehension.

No, the goal of a vaccine is so you won't contract and spread a virus. This was the goal of the smallpox vaccine, the polio vaccine, measles, etc. I don't know why we're changing the definition for covid.

Omicron would still be spreading. I don't get how you can say in one breath that the vaccine isn't a cure but just helps you manage symptoms but in the next saying if we were all vaccinated we wouldn't be dealing with it. Lol

Went to see my doctor for a monthly heart check up and she was actively worried about it. Told me to stay away from the hospitals as much as possible especially when getting bloodwork. Said this was the fifth wave and was easily the worst one yet.

Starting to get really nervous. Even with a double vaccine and a booster shot.

i think your doctor has it right. do whatever it takes to stay out of a hospital these next two months

If kids stay home for virtual schooling then how are the parent supposed to go to their 9-5 jobs so we can keep our glorious economy going?

Lmao Im in education. Ask any teacher. Kids arent learning at home at ALL levels. Its harder for younger kids especially. But even at the HS level, kids struggled through virtual learning and have fallen behind significantly in all subjects.

Im not saying keep schools open during the peak of a pandemic. Im also advocating for shutting down schools temporarily, but we gotta acknowledge that it will cause setbacks.

Because they mislabeled what they are currently giving people as a "vaccine" when in reality it's a "symptom suppressor". But for the sake of the conversation it's easier to just call it a vaccine.

It would still be spreading, but there would be MUCH more people that are asymptomatic or have minimal symptoms, and the country wouldn't be struggling to find bus drivers, substitute teachers, etc. that is causing many schools to go virtual, because the more "vaccinated" people there are, the faster they will recover when they catch Covid.
