The "my pleasure" they are forced to say makes my cringe. Only place I don't say thank you at.

It's a hell of a lot better when I say "thank you" and the person says NOTHING I guess? It makes me feel like I don't want to come back. Like I was an annoyance. CFA makes me want to come back with their happy attitudes.

Same. Im eating CFA right now. I always hope they say have a nice day so I can say you too instead of thank you.

You people think you're too good for every social formality but then are upset you've been single your entire lives and have no friends that you've met in person.

I avoided going to CFA even before all of the homophobic stuff was public for that very reason. Even when you dont say thank you, at the drive-thru they would say shit like it will be my pleasure to serve you at the window after taking your order and its so creepy.

Youve clearly never worked this kind of gig if you genuinely expect an assembly line worker to customize your experience.

These lines make it easier. They serve the worker. Work any fast and simple customer service gig for over a year, then tell me youre not crying for some canned lines to get you through the day.

Every other restaurant (fast food or otherwise) I've been to just has normal polite exchange. What is wrong with thank you, you're welcome, have a nice day? Instead of a forced line they have to say 100 times a day. I feel bad for them, I couldn't have done it.

If I say thank you the only response they are allowed to give is "My pleasure" maybe it wasn't their pleasure though

yeah I worked in a supermarket deli for a while and I always said the same shit to every customer. When you try to change things thats when you fuck up and words come out wrong

Nice is subjective and there are many paths to nicety. Bring forced to parrot s specific phrase is demeaning and patronizing. It is only used against those in a vulnerable situation like and underpaid fast food worker. It is a classist and racist please policy.

I avoid it entirely because I can get better food elsewhere. I was actually forced to go recently cause a conservaderp relative gave gift cards for it and had to wait in line for fucking 40 minutes and this was at a place that had those double lines

Worst part was I couldn't drive away cause these assholes have you pay for it while you're waiting in line

I don't care what they say as long as it is a choice. McDonald's doesn't punish its employees for saying a phrase as long as the employees are polite. CFA punishes employees for saying something equally as polite, but not the specific phrase the mandate. It's not about politeness it's about control.

it's obviously an area based thing, not restaurant based. people around here sure as fuck aren't walking around in 20F degree weather or snow or rain just so people can pay while still way back in line.

I have literally never heard of a place ever doing that around here. most of them don't even use a 2nd window for paying since the pandemic started.

I'm sure it's a regional thing, but no one around here says "my pleasure" except for CFA workers. So it stands out and it's cringe because it's obviously not their pleasure to serve me. Still not as bad as "have a pretzel day" but most corporate canned responses make me cringe internally. I still say "thank you" if there's not a lead-in to say something else.

Fun anecdote: one time I said "thanks, where are your straws" and she said "my pleasure, straws are behind you" and my brain thought she said "my pleasure straws".

Usually instead of thanking them I just say have a blessed day
