Yeah, someone bought a coffee for me in a Dunkin drive thru some years ago in the Boston area. I'm a knucklehead and failed to pay it forward myself.

It's not really generous until the last person who doesn't pay. Otherwise it's just the luck of what the person behind you got.

I'll take it then instead of paying it forward, I'll tip the cashier or barista or whatever. The customers wouldn't be in line if they couldn't afford stuff already.

I got involved with one at Cook Out one time.

The whole thing is a complete farce.

I got up to the window and pay and they were like, "They've been doing this thing where everyone is paying for the person behind them, do you wanna do that?"

I said, "No, I just wanna pay for my own."

So they just skipped me in line and I paid for my own food. Doesn't make any sense. This is just purchasing BBQ but with more steps involved. Also I was by myself and didn't want to pay up to $20 for my small BBQ tray.

Sounds stupid. I've only done it once but only because knew my friends from the gym were behind me in line.

Didnt know people actually did it and expected the others to do the same in return. Seems like another case of forced meme acts of kindness that dont make sense.

I was in a drive thru and got one coffee, and was told there was a pay it forward going on and asked if I wanted to join. I asked what the next person had and was told 6 coffees and a dozen bagels

I was like "seriously"?

No but it'd probably be awkward cause I don't get a lot, but I've seen people get enough food for multiple families at times so I'd probably end up paying more than I would've normally if I just got to pay for my own order

The chain part totally defeats the purpose.

I had a guy pay my $8 toll once on the highway after he accidentally went into the ez-pass lane and I let him right through to the cash lane in front of me. That was a nice one.

I made a topic about this a while ago and how much I hated it because it just feels like peer pressure to do it or you're an asshole.

That and like someone said above if I get a coffee and a hashbrown from McDonalds I should not be expected to pay for someone and their minivan full of kids behind me.

I know it's not like you HAVE to do it but there is a certain amount of pressure. "Oh the last 10 cars have done it!" IDGAF.
