That is why I thought "for" created a comma splice. It is arbitrary, as half of all things grammatic writing are, but that is the rules as taught. I do agree with "because" not being a coordinating conjuction because it ties the two clauses together in a more significant way than a coordinating conjuction implies (Which is why it is a subjective conjuction).
