The conclusion of our paper is that the increased risk of mortality is not explained by the hormone treatment itself. The increased risk for cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, infections, and non-natural causes of death may be explained by lifestyle factors and mental and social wellbeing. Unsurprising. Transgenders are treated like shit by at least half if not most of the population. That leads to increased risk of isolation and depression, drug usage, fear of doctors. Which in turn leads to higher levels of suicide and assault/murder. In pretty much every case of not treating transgenders like crap, the figures for early death/depression/suicide plummeted. Similar to what happened with gay people. And it says a lot that bigots take the information as justification of their bigotry rather than condemnation.
