I lived through 9/11 and remembered how the nation came together and unified. I was ignorant to assume that we would come together again and do the right thing, but instead are one of the worst nations on the planet for cases and people refusing to make any kind of effort to end this. So no, I didnt anticipate this lasting this long and half our nation would act like children about it, including our leaders.
Well, 9/11 was basically impossible to ignore. The two tallest buildings in the world having freaking planes crash into them, instantly ending thousands of lives and devastating several blocks. Covid is just as silent as any other virus.

As for the topic, yes, I did anticipate it going on this long. I've learned never to underestimate human stupidity; to always expect the worst, stupidest outcome. And sure enough, here we are, in the worst, stupidest timeline.

covid isnt silent at all, thats a terrible take. Youve never heard someone struggle to breathe when theyre about to die, have you? Plus all the media coverage and literal piles of bodies and killing 3x 9/11s worth of people per day is impossible to ignore unless someone is being willfully ignorant

Kind of an odd question, but same to you: have you heard someone struggling to breathe as they are dying?

I figured it would take a while, but I sure as hell didn't think Republicans would want it to go on for two goddamn years

Yeah, after turmpy called it a left hoax, and was still calling it that after 100's of thousands of people had already died, I kinda knew we were in for the long haul.

Yeah, it was obvious people in general would be too stupid to pull together to control it.

At first, yeah I thought it would end up being like a joke sickness that was way overblown.

But then I saw how people politicized it and knew that this was probably gonna be one of those very long time dealies.

I thought it would last a month before the CDC and foreign equivalents figured something out and got us out of this mess.

Now, the college where I work is about to go remote for the next month due to rampant covid amongst staff and students. I look forward to working from home again, but it's crazy were in this position again.

I think you're being a little harsh in this response. No, most people haven't actually heard a genuine death rattle from a fellow human being, which is why seeing a pic of someone on a ventilator won't really get through to anti-vaxxers / maskers, because they can't really empathize with that situation. Media coverage of Covid has, for the most part, been a game of stats and figures, something that won't really trigger a deep visceral response in people who've never had to experience something like that.

9/11 was a different case altogether. Everyone, at some point in their lives, has had at least a twinge of fear of dying in a plane crash, or dying in a fire, or falling from a tall height, or being stuck in tall building. The footage of those planes crashing into the towers instantly triggered nightmare scenarios in the populace, as everyone watching could immediately feel how horrifying it would be to be in that situation, and how none of us were truly safe from it happening to us.
