Spidey has always been my favorite superhero so I always see the movie in theaters. I waited a while this time cuz of COVID til there were like 5 people left in the theater, but I finally saw it last weekend. This film was great for longtime fans and did not disappoint!

Spider-Man in the MCU universe has definitely improved from the first big universe film, which I thought was the weakest ever since I first saw the poster that looked more like an ad for "Iron Man and Sidekick." But this universe's Spidey has grown up and got better for sure, and even if you still like the other Spideys better, well good news they're in this film as well. No Way Home brings back the original and reboot #1 Spider guys from the alternate universes, which I'll shorthand as "alts" when referring to them for the rest of this review. Let's get to the plot.

Starting where we left off from the last film, Spider-Man's secret identity is revealed and everyone is out to get him. Well, some people like him, but the obsessed loudmouths like Jameson do not and they go after Spidey relentlessly as he's forced to go underground. What will our hero do? Well, he decides to seek out Strange and wipe the slate clean so he can go back outside and no one will know it's him. He makes a mistake though, when he interrupts Strange because he wants a couple people to still know his identity. He shouldn't have done this and soon enough, enemy alts emerge to attack him. Yes there are enemy alts too!

This is where it gets really weird. Normally when you die you stay dead, right? Well in this oddball universe the enemies can now come back at any time as alts, and they wreak havoc on the city and poor Spider-Man. The villains were brought in at the top of their game too, and this Spider-Man doesn't recognize them as anyone he's ever fought before so he has no idea wtf is going on or what their problems are.

So it's challenging for Spidey, but if you know anything about our hero you know how it goes down. The enemy "wins" act 1 usually through brute force, but Spider-Man comes back in act 2 with his smarts to turn the tables and save the day. Even better, Spider-Man has alts of his own and they come back to kick butt! Yeah it turns out Spidey has 2 alts and they hang out in a couple other universes under the same name, different location. But this seems to be the main universe with all the Avengers in it....if only they can keep it from falling apart and collapsing in on itself....

Here's the extra challenge: Spider-Man isn't out to destroy his enemies the way they're out to get him. Nope. Spidey doesn't want to send the alts back to their deaths. Instead he wants to save them - fix their problems, get them to chill out and REFORM!

How do you do all that? Well in the movies if you have superpowers it takes about 2 1/2 hours. I thought this was gonna get split into 2 parts but nope, it just keeps going, and that's my only "complaint" about the movie if anything. I think it drags a little bit before the final showdown. But man is the rest on point. Friends become adversaries, enemies become allies, the universe goes wacky a few times. Who knew we were gonna see a heartless Strange wanna lock everything down, and Spidey fight against him to keep the alts in business! Who knew Spidey's own alts would have to keep him behaved so he doesn't go on a revenge spree against the goblins who wronged him! Who knew Jameson's info show was right all along and lizard people do indeed walk among us! So many twists and turns to the saga of our hero, but yes, he does find his way home where he belongs. Welcome home, hero, you deserve it.

It was a great movie and seriously I'm only taking a fraction of a point off for the long-movie drag. I give it a 9.5/10 and I can't wait to see what comes next. Personally I wanna see him up against some spider slayers in the next one.
