Vancouver police are asking for the public's help identifying the suspect in an apparent random physical attack of a woman on Dec. 31 that happened in broad daylight on the sidewalk of one of the city's busiest streets. Security camera video shows the 22-year-old victim, who is Asian, walking in front of the Hotel Georgia on West Georgia Street when a man, walking in the opposite direction, suddenly grabs her, throws her violently backwards into a planter and then against a wall before holding her down. The assault happened at 3:30 in the afternoon and lasts about 10 seconds. The woman struggles frees while the suspect picks up the large blue bag he was carrying and walks away heading east on West Georgia Street. The woman walks away in the other direction. VPD spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison said an investigation has been ongoing since the attack but that police only obtained the video this week.

Maybe it stands out in Asian peoples' minds more(i won't speculate as to why) but these type of things are extremely common in all countries, and in many white countries. It's actually rampant all over Canada, Australia and Germany. I think Canada is actually the worst place with anti-Asian sentiment. An article(that mods here kept deleting for some reason) did a year long study of crimes and incidents during the height of anti-Asian attacks in the USA during Covid and concluded that almost 90% were committed by white people.

Not to downplay this incident, but black people are still the overwhelming majority of victims in racially-motivated hate crimes. And not sure what makes you think Asian people aren't speaking out sharply about this. It's discussed everywhere. I live in a majority Asian country where anti-Asian crimes are statistically non-existent, and they even talk about this problem here.

They're definitely out there but they don't have the media clout due to being much smaller and, more significantly (and unfortunately) historically not being very visible in the "national consciousness."

It's easier for the media to "sell" well publicized racial discord than one that's always been relatively marginalized (despite being as persistent and ugly as any other).

There definitely are voices and movements similar to the veins of "Asian lives matter", but tbh the asian populace is quite small in the usa to create any significant movements. Also, there are still an overwhelming amount of ignorant/racist people and the still prevalent notion in this country that asian people aren't important and a lot of casual racism against them are overlooked and downplayed with apathy.

It's unfortunate that people have reached the point where they don't fear the consequences of doing shit like this. Hope they find him and throw him in jail for hate crimes.

They do have a movement. It's called Stop Asian Hate. There's also Stop AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Hate.

Hes probably mentally unstable and needs help. Either way the point of prison should be rehabilitation instead of punishment.

Also, why are prisoners exclusively deserving of this kind of attack? You know theres nonviolent offenders in there, right?

You think it's mostly Asian people making these claims?

Chinese/Asian people have been in the U.S./North America for over 170 years and played a huge role in developing the country and bringing amazing culture here but they still looked at as foreigners. Asians gotta show how American they are by beating up others and killing them. Show true Asian power then they won't be messed with.
