Most people think the G represents God, which it kinda does, but not exactly. It's a representative of the acronym GAOTU which stands for Grand Architect Of The Universe.

I'm surprised so few people got this one. I thought everybody knew about them. My grandfather and great grandfather were both very active Freemasons.

My family wasn't but I knew this symbol. Then again did grow up in a neighborhood that had a building with the symbol on it. Assuming it was one of their chapters

That's the Freemason Square and Compasses. But I don't know what category applies to them. It does reference technology. There are conspiracy theories about them. Due to political polarization everything is either left or right wing depending on the ideology of the person complaining about it. I don't think it relates to food, sports, or pets.

was anything ever said or noted somewhere about Oak Island? it's a show on the History Channel that I've enjoyed watching for years, and there are many connections tied to the Freemasons and Knights Templar on the island

When my grandfather passed away my mother DEMANDED that I give her his Masonic ring. So I showed her the three rings that he had. She grabbed the one that was 14 carot cheap, with a plastic inset containing the square and compass.

If only she knew what she passed up...

The first ring was a simple gold band with the Hebrew letter yod in a triangle, and the inscription inside the ring read Virtus Junxit Mors Non Separabit (What virtue has joined together, death shall not separate).

I think The X-Files touched upon this. There was a plot strand that put forward the theory that basically, the belief in a government conspiracy to cover up the truth about alien abductions had in fact been manufactured by the government, in an attempt to cover up the fact that it was carrying out the abductions itself. In other words, a strategy of diverting the spotlight away from the mundane truth by focusing it on a fantastical lie instead.

Oddly enough I think they were all Free Mason rings; going to go out on a limb and say your grandfather was a 32nd degree grandmaster.

Depends on the Lodge they belong to, most are just social clubs, some still adhere to the ancient traditions of anonymous charity and good deeds to the community; there is an unfortunate subset of lodges that seek only power, or worse. If you ever meet a Shriner or a 33rd degree master mason, ask if they have been to the Book of the Play recently and watch their face turn white as a sheet.

Basically this. The CIA coined the term Conspiracy Theory as a way to discredit individuals who were telling stories out of school (so to speak) and found that the public was eager to make their own up; the CIA then covertly (and sometimes overtly) encourages and propagates them to better classify individuals and their ideologies. A good portion of DoD black budget goes to programs that investigate phenomenon that in actuality is just another secret DoD program, Project Blue Book for example.
