Excluding the time skip, which obviously adds two years.

This series has been going on for so long, but when you actually look at the arcs themselves, most of the conflicts that take up so much of the chapter count are very, very short in duration.

Dressrosa, for example, took one afternoon. The sun wasn't even starting to go down before Luffy defeated Doflamingo.
Ditto for the counterattack on Enies Lobby after CP9 took Robin.
The Marineford War, as chaotic as it was, probably only lasted a few hours.
They were barely on Sabaody long enough to take a satisfying piss.

So now I'm sitting here, bored off my ass, wondering exactly how long the Straw Hats have been sailing around like idiots.

Not counting the time skip? Probably about a year, give or take.

There's no way there's a thousand episodes but it's only been one year

Pre-skip, probably about 8 months or so, counting travel time. Post-skip it's been like a month and a bit more, since IIRC it was like a week between FMI and the Tea Party, and a month between the escape from WCI and the Onigashima Raid (due to the full moon)

People have estimated the pre-timeskip timeline from phases of the moon. According to this compilation, the time from chapter 2 to timeskip is about 4 months.

Post-timeskip is about a month? Mostly waiting for the raid.
