well when they try to act holier than thou and act as if you should repent and change your ways, even if you aren't a real bad person, when you know their own flawed past and can easily shut down some of their argument by simply mentioning it is sad. Some of it being worse than things I've said and done. I'm just left speechless sometimes at the lack of self awareness and how they are like "I asked God for forgiveness.", and I'm like "Do you think that absolves you of responsibility?". I'm not even a atheist either, I just get sick and tired of some Christians I know thinking I'm a ungodly man because I refuse to go to church weekly and take part in their farce of a community.

That's mainly the stigma surrounding Catholic Priests. Christian Priests have done it to, but of course the world at large mainly slanders Catholics for it.

Seriously. My knowledge, my moral compass, and the Law apparently considering I've never been arrested for anything. And the fact that I am not out to actively screw people over in any way.

Yeah, meeting hypocritical Christians that were super preachy and while acting like they have a high moral compass was very common when I grew up in the South. The whole point of asking God for forgiveness is the promise of abstaining from doing the sin again, not that you can keep doing the same sin over and over again. I point this out so many times (when I was younger and a Christian) and got a lot of flack for it lol.

Yea, "promising" to not do the same sin again probably isn't a good practice, seeing as we all inherently have a sinful nature....

I was taught that God reads the heart. Saying that you can sin over and over again, like getting a free pass, to me breaks the whole purpose of reconciliation.

How is it hypocritical if they repented and changed their ways and are merely asking you to do the same?

All you're doing is saying it doesn't change their past, which...they weren't even claiming it did?

Indeed, he does. Yea, repentance sounds to me like a conscious effort to try and not do the same sin again. I think the "effort" is the key, as one can still fail.

For most protestant Christian sects, they're Pastors and don't get the same kind of stigma because they're allowed to be married.

Protestants pretending Catholics aren't Christians is one of the most baffling things. I've never heard it outside an American context, so I assume it's some bullshit of the religious puritanicalism there.

Different beliefs. Kinda like Pharisees and Saducees of days past. One sect believes one thing or set of things, the other, another.

As someone who grew up Southern Baptist and was taught that Catholics and Mormons aren't Christians, I can conclude a lot of it is because the Protestant movement was all about breaking apart from the Roman Vatican Church. We were taught that Catholics did heretical things that goes against the bible like worship statues, the Pope, and Mary. Hence why they "changed" the second commandment. As an atheist now, Catholics are Christians by definition.

This is hilarious seeing as omnivores tend to be the ones who adopt a cult-like mentality toward their diet and shame people for making the individual choice to forego meat.
