The QA testers for Call of Duty has been on strike for months. This is why all the Call of Duty games became broken after a latch dropped. No QA testers

its standard corporate messaging. whenever they present anti-union stuff in the face of possible unionization one of the more common go-tos is "we are a big happy family and unions are a go between that prevents us from working out our problems together directly" (together meaning in a way where you have no leverage and can easily be fucked)

Oh I'm sure it's double speak, I was just (morbidly) curious as to their explanation/rationale!

Does that really matter in practice? If the workers stay united, Activision can cover its ears and try to ignore them but they're not going to fire an entire dev team.

Then the union aspect doesn't matter much does it? They can recognize the union and and still fire them. If they're willing to replace an entire team that team doesn't have much power regardless of what they do.

Once the union has been formally established they legally have to engage in good faith contract negotiation. Most likely any Union contract would involve a clause that allows for appeal or arbitration for employees who feel they have been fired without merit. So Activision could try firing the entire team, but it would trigger months if not years of arbitration where Activision has to provide evidence to justify each individual firing.
