That day is TODAY. Going to work today just sounds awful, so Im going to use a much needed sick day to rest my brain.

This was a good call. I have like 14 total days still, so using a random day here or there isnt a big deal at all.

What do you mean, by 14 days still? Do "sick days" eat into your Annual Leave?

I get a certain number of sick days per year. Some carry over, some dont. My bank of sick days is at like 14 right now. Those arent vacation days.

You only have 14? Shit maybe I need to take some more time off actually lol. If I divide my hours into 8 hour shifts I have a little under 38 days lol

Yea people use to tell me to take some time off but my job doesnt have enough people so doing it now isnt ideal.

As for the second part, I dont think Ive ever taken off 3 days in a row before so it will be very unusual for me and they wouldnt want me to do it. Hell, I had covid on my days off and they tried to get me to come to work on my scheduled day so bad but I called out because I wasnt feeling well still. (It was technically the end of my 5 day quarantine) They panicked like hell when I took
that one day off. I went to work the next day still sick but they told me to come as long as I didnt have a fever. They didnt even want to test me again to make sure I was negative.

I work at a hospital BTW

youre entitled to those days. Dont let your job take advantage of you that way. Pretty messed up.

I see. We have 6 months here, on full-pay (which resets after 12 months). Dunno how I'd cope with "14 days". Probably have to use some of my Annual Leave (28 days).

I tend to come in when Im physically ill if its an important day. I have a fair few responsibilities that would mean losing money or would affect other people and I often feel I have no choice.

I havent done it to date but I probably would take a personal day if my mental health was suffering as I do tend to suffer from depression / anxiety a fair bit but usually am able to manage it.

True story, I did this and my boss threw a fit, the very next week he arranged a meeting with all of us to warn us about not showing up for work, and being on time every day. I don't think it was just because of me but I may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

it depends. had a job with an asshole manager, so i did it regularly. sick leave, rostered day off, annual leave. i would wake up and decide nope fuck it and call it in.

i dont do it if the manager isnt a piece of shit though.

That's nice you can do that.

I get a $1,000 fine for calling in sick. I can only get out of it if I'm hospitalized. Otherwise I'm expected to work.

I hope they are a legit POS and not the kind of boss that my GF is, who actually works out there with her people and is very understanding, as well as gives them gifts on Christmas (from her own money) and buys them lunch every once in a while (also on her dime). She's a manager at walmart, so those aren't cheap bills. And yet, people still call in on her because she's tough and doesn't put up with bs, and laziness.

I did every now and then, only if nothing was going on and I knew there were enough to cover the shift. One time I spent all morning throwing up but still went in because it was our birthday celebration and we were packed. I had zero energy and had no idea where I was half the night but I made sure work was covered. But now they want proof of any illness. If you call in sick, be prepared to go to ER and confirm it, no matter how minor it is.
