I'd be down for any, but my assumption (oops) was for this to be a 5e campaign because it's the most recent.

I assumed as well but thought I'd ask as people tend to have strong opinions about it unless they're new and only played 5e.

You should join if you've got the time. D&D's a lot of fun.

I've played OD&D and 1-5e, a bunch of other games, but 3.5 is my most played edition by a lot. Not sure if I've played more 2e or 5e. Don't really have a favorite, different editions do different things well and other things less well. I'd probably have to give to pathfinder if I had to choose. I suspect I'd lean towards 4e if I'd gotten more chances to play it, but no one ever wanted to play it so I only really got to try it for a few sessions.

I could see that. I had a lot of fun with it for the few sessions I did get to play with it though and I wish I'd got to play it more. I've been a fan of tactical grid combat for a long time and that's what 4e does.

And tbf 3.5 was pretty awful with modifiers and its math too. I played in a pathfinder game once that went to level 40 (classes maxed out at 20, but we could multiclass above 20), and my character sheet ended up being 8 pages long. Had a blast with that character (Elan psion/aegis/soul knife but that was pretty absurd.

4e made me stop playing dungeons and dragons for years after starting with ad&d and playing pretty consistently

still havent played a non-videogame version of 5e. kinda want to but doubt i have the time right now

i would join if not for the fact that Wednesday is sporadically Call of Cthulu day for me when we get the party in order....and time zones

That's a good question. Roll20 works great if you want the grid combat. That'd be my preference. Not sure about overgoated's preference for free form vs grid combat. My friend used google hangouts with a two camera set up, one focused on him and one focused on maps. He had a battle mat sat up so he could do minis, which was kind of cool for atmosphere of being around a table, but also kind of annoying to communicate where I want to move.

I'm free literally any time so whatever day is fine with me.

That works for me.

I tend to prefer just using an open office file or on actual notebook paper (if playing in person) rather than a proper character sheet personally. Mostly just so I can organize the sheet to my preference rather than having to design one or track one down that I like.

So for characters:
Level 1, but you roll an extra hit die for HP (so an extra d12 if you are a Barbarian, or d8 if you are a cleric, etc.)
Everyone gets an extra feat.
Ability scores are rolled, 4d6, drop the lowest.
For races, I'd prefer no flying, but other than that I'm okay with many other ones.
For classes, I'd say no twilight or peace clerics.
For story reasons, mages and other arcane casters are hunted and persecuted. Clerics and Paladins exist, but they have a harder time casting spells (this is just storyline, not an actual mechanics thing)
Just backgrounds from the PHB please.
As a GM I prefer a lot of combat and exploration. The social aspect of the game is great, but can be a lot more difficult to pull off online. I use a lot of homebrew / 3rd party monsters. I also just bought a neat book on crafting so that might be a bigger than usual part of the game.
How does this Wednesday work for a session 0/meet and greet?

I have a bunch of resources on Roll20 from my other campaigns, so I was thinking Roll20 and discord. It's always been a winning combination for me.

I am in. I can do Saturdays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

The thing is that time is 10 PM for me which is when I go to bed on weekdays. To match on a weekday you guys would have to be up for it pretty early, sadly.

Be here on Wednesday for session 0 all will be explained and there are already experienced players that will likely help you get started.

I'd like to join if you're still taking people, I'm available any weekday after 5:30 pm central time and all day until midnight Saturday and 10 pm Sunday

Im super new to D&D. I started playing one game with my friend and his friends a year or so ago but it got dropped pretty quickly. I had a lot of fun in the brief time we did play, though.

I dont know. I might wait and see what other people do then maybe do whatever is missing. I haven't played DnD in like almost a decade maybe. So I am not sure what is good. I think I only ever played 2nd edition. The group I was with only liked that.

I could give it a shot as long as I'm not required to be on video chat or similar. I'm also on mobile not a computer, don't know if that makes a difference
