And scientists didn't have to worry about grant funding or job security.

We'd be so much further along.

Additionally, that major companies (especially billionaires) take science and gate it. They discover the new science and instead of letting the entire global community work on it and perfect it and find new applications, they hoard it, patent it, and make sure they suck all the oxygen out of the room so that no other scientists can work on it.

Pharm companies are doing it. Musk is doing it.

Technology is progressing

The real problem is that it's progressing with the shittiest companies around at the helm. People wouldn't be as apathetic to VR if it was anyone but Zuckerberg spearheading it

See, this is misinformation that no one goes after and I don't know why. You are misinformed.

The vaccine doesn't kill covid and prevent it from spreading. The vaccine prevents you from becoming severely ill and needing hospitalization. You can still get covid and spread it despite being vaccinated.

Don't let misinformation mislead you into thinking that conservatives are responsible for covid existing. America is not the only country in the world.

Interesting no one in this topic corrected you.

No shit the vaccine prevents you from severe illness I already know that

We had record low cases but the virus kept spreading through the unvaccinated and eventually mutated into a form that could move easily get through the vaccine

And all the science backs that up

If it was the preferred misinformation, this user would have been bombarded with several derogatory names, called a trumper, an alt righter, mass marked and possibly suspended as fast as possible considering their moderation history.

My point is misinformation isn't problematic unless it's coming from your preferred "other".

It's not "faith" lol. The vaccine reduces transmission. Viral load largely relates to infectiousness, and the vaccine accelerates the reduction of viral load.

So yes, vaccinated people can transmit, but they have a lower probability of transmission.

So, there are currently hundreds of postdocs for every 1 tenure track position. There's a lot of highly qualified scientists that simply cannot do science because the positions do not exist.

There's no lack of supply here, making your scenario unlikely.

Also, the path to being a scientist is a fuckton of work. It's not like you can skate to a position. The lazy professor trope just doesn't apply to science.

Because (as has been stated) you *weren't* correcting misinformation. That poster NEVER said he/she shouldn't have gotten COVID due to being vaccinated, that was just an assumption YOU made. Technology influences science much more often than the other way around, tbh.

It is pretty common for big scientific results to have no immediate applicability.
