I just mean in general - i've been trying to get better at drawing, and music, and painting, and typing... but when I start reading tutorials I kinda just zone out

not all of those skills can necessarily be honed by reading a tutorial anyway. you can only improve your drawing by actually doing it for example

the hard part for me is sticking with something for the hundreds of hours that i suck at it. it's a tough balance being observant of what's wrong without being too self-critical

yeah those are all things that are particularly improved through practice more than reading (music I guess there's music theory and reading music notation so depends what you mean)

I think one of the main things is whether you can fail safely. it's much more difficult to improve at something if you can't fail at it, but for things that you can fail at (so that you can practice effectively), it's just a matter of energy and motivation. (and those are things you can fail at.)
