After the dlc flesh the game out, it is by far the best Pokmon mainline game.

Is the handholding worse than it was in Sun and Moon? That's the last Pokmon game I played (other than LGPE) and that's a big reason why I didn't like it.

The handholding in Sw/Sh is about as bad as it was in Su/Mo. Anyway, Sw/Sh get a lot of hate mainly because of Dexit, but also because Game Freak lied about things, they withheld some popular Pokemon to be readded for the DLC areas and because extra content wise vanilla Sw/Sh wasn't as good as few previous games. Doesn't help that shill critics vastly overrated it with (9/10) scores on release and part of the what makes it good is the few unintentional exploits it has. Even with DLC Sw/Sh isn't really great, but at least with the DLC it's pretty good(8/10), because without it it is barely good(7/10). Still even vanilla Sw/Sh are better than Legends Arceus in quite a few ways.

With the same method on BDSP, Ive gotten seven or eight shinies in like two weeks.

That's not entirely Sw/Sh's fault, you just seem really unlucky.

It's did some things right, but they also stepped back in may areas compared to it's predecessors...

-Legendary pokemon were kinda ehhhh...
Well to be honest, most of the new pokemon were kinda lame but at least there's plenty of variety to keep it from getting too stale
-Exploration is definitely the highlight in this game over everything else, unfortunately there isn't much post game content... So you won't really get much incentive to revisit certain areas unless you like listening to the music for those places...
-The character customization/having non chibi character models was also nice and I've seen people make a lot of unique Trainer cards which is almost in the same level of creativity as Soul Calibur.

Overall I give it like 7/10

It screamed tech demo and they sold half of the game to you later as DLC. For what it's worth I actually enjoyed my playthrough but I dropped it like it was hot as soon as I used clock exploits to get my giant cake after finishing.

We knew all mons wouldn't return because of Dexit. Gigantamax / Dynamax replaced Megas in this generation. No returning characters isn't that big of a deal. Yeah the online system is worse though.

The Legendaries in Gen 8 are alright. Zamazenta got the short end of the stick, but they could easily fix that if they let him learn some more moves. Exploration is a tiny bit better than some previous games due to the Wild Areas, but at the same time it's worse due to how simple and straightforward the designs of the routes and towns are. I'd say the variety of Pokemon in game to catch and use, the ease of creating competitive Pokemon and the battles are the strongest qualities of Sw/Sh, even if it isn't as good in useable Pokemon, moves and battles as US/UM.

I thought it was pretty boring and lifeless. Had way more fun play Lets Go. Legends looks the same boring and lifeless. Things not looking good for the best gen remake.

The dlc sucked and there was a lot of missing Pokemons with probably the worst rival in the series. I enjoyed what I got out of it, but I recognize the issues lol

It was the first one I ever played and thought it was fine, did a lot of raids with family online and had some fun with it.

The DLC was okay, but Hop wasn't bad. I'd say Hau from Gen 7 is easily worse, even if Hop borrows some of his animations.

I'd pay $100 for a "murder Hop" DLC. Almost stopped playing entirely because he annoyed me so much. Just wanted to stuff his ass in a pokeball and launch it off a cliff.

I enjoyed the game overall. The gym's were fun and varied, the Wild Area is cool and I like the Gigantamax designs. My main issue though, is how weirdly the story is done. Basically there's the whole plot line with Rose playing out in the background, that you don't get to see because the game railroads you onto the 8 gym battle plot line. You could have had more involvement, maybe battling Macro Cosmos members more, while seeing that some shady things are actually going on. Instead of it coming out of nowhere at the end. It's really poorly executed.

I'm also not a fan of how many of the game's systems are tied to the Switch's clock. Having to constantly change the date and time on my Switch, just to get things done, is really annoying.

The story was disappointing considering there is almost no build up to the Rose antagonist scenario like you mentioned. However, if they made you fight Macro Cosmos goons too early it would have incriminated Rose too soon. Should have made a fake organization to temporarily represent them, but even that sort of plot is over done. Team Yell being the antagonist group for most of the game was a bad idea given how poor their motivation is. Lastly, even with the DLC, the end of Rose's story arc is left on a cliffhanger. This makes me think there will be a sequel game. Be glad they at least left those game clock exploits in the game and didn't patch them. Makes making money, and more importantly competitive Pokemon a hell of a lot more easy and fast than it used to be.

The further away we get from gen 1, the more flack it will catch until they capture that same magic again.

They made a Detective Pikachu movie featuring heavily on Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

... They will never make a Detective Scorbunny movie or anything similar. Tbh

Was tempted to name-drop Greninja in that post, actually ^.^ They treated them like Lickers (from Resident Evil) almost. I loved it. Or, snatchers. Very cool. That Torterra might be the best thing Pokemon has done since the Unknown.

Wasn't much of a post game and the wild areas/"open world" are a mixed bag.

I really liked sword and shield. Way better then last gen. Sun and Moon is the only Pokmon gen I never finished. I thought those games were horrible. Im sure ultra sun and moon were better but I just could not bring myself to play them.

Gen 8 is in the best 3 Gen's so far.

Yeah, that's a good point Macro Cosmos being bad guys would give Rose away too early. And oh god, I hope they don't do a Sword and Shield 2. The next game needs to be on a new map.

And believe me, I'm very glad they left the exploits in lol.

Thought this would be about using a sword with a shield
