tolerance of intolerance only leads to louder intolerance. From personal experience, it's hard for a nazi to spout anti-semitism and the ilk if their face is swollen beyond recognition.

I don't know how I feel about it... It can make people who are less radicalized more radicalized through sympathy.

Its always amusing to watch the punch Nazis crowd go off. Very often the people who advocate for such barbarism are of the sort where their punch probably isnt going to hurt much anyway. They seem to see themselves as the second coming of Pattons army, fighting off the genocidal scourge taking over the continent.

But obviously there isnt any rational justification for walking up to someone expressing some evil view and slugging them for it (the burden of proof, by the way, is on those who would argue otherwise). It would probably satisfy some primitive instinct, I suppose, but I doubt its likely to change anyones mind, in which case its no more than violence for its own sake. No one who isnt pathological would argue that violence is inherently good.

I think people who want to silence ugly ideas with force are just lazy. Rather than put forth the effort to change minds, they just want to chase off the bad guys so they dont have to think about it anymore. I think thats likely to hinder progress.

It's not "tolerance" to just not assault people. The pro Nazi punching crowd seems to conflate not punching Nazis with a stamp of approval of their thoughts and actions.

There are a million different ways to deal with Nazis beyond street violence.

this is true for basically any political violence or violence in general. most peoples reaction to even being close to violence is usually some form of panic. its why conservatives spent like 15 years fantasizing online about mowing down protestors with their cars and yet it remains a rarity for the most part (or in the case of charlottesville, something that made them all scatter to disavow it)

doesnt change the fact that a nazi getting punched is or is not funny or justified, just that it doesnt actually happen anywhere near as much as either side of the discussion would have you believe

White supremacy isn't an issue with much nuance. There's right and wrong.

And not saying this to you personally, but weird how certain groups of people are at their loudest about "peace and understanding, changing hearts and minds" when people are intolerant to FUCKING NAZIS. Very curious at what times they develop tolerance and acceptance of "different opinions". They aren't such hippies when they hear about schools letting children know LGBT people exist.

I think it's everyone's responsibility to have anyone they interact with fill out a political questionnaire, and if there are any politically deplorable answers, slug them.
