Never played the original for the record. I feel like the game gets a worse rap here then it deserves. Doesn't match up to 7 or RE2MAKE but it's pretty solid stuff.

I liked

+Pretty much everything carried over from 2make
+Increased enemy variety
+The dodge feature was actually nice but not good enough to be an easy get out of jail card unless you are seriously good.
+The Boss fights are better here. Nothing godawful like that Crane Boss in 2.

Disliked

-Carlos trip to a dummied down portion of the police station. Lame filler.
-A few annoying instances where the set piece action did not jive with the gameplay/controls or seemed gratuitous.
-Less content then 2
-Not as scary as 2

It stays enough in survival horror for me to not mind the increased action. It's not my ideal balance but it's within a zone that it doesn't become an inherent negative beyond individual sections that I don't feel quite work.

Solid game.

You should definitely play the original, it's the best classic Resident Evil. 3R is still a great game, but it's obviously got nothing on 2R.

I like it more than REMAKE 2.

I can see why people take issue with it though.

The primitive graphics are more of a ding with horror then other genres IMO.

The camera angles and controls are also issues.

that pretty much all comes down to the original. its not like 2 remake where they did make some cuts, but in general were still faithful to what the original did and made some smart modern design choices. 3 remake pretty much either scraped or gutted EVERYTHING that made the original interesting.

taken as its own thing its a solid 7/10 game as you said and and they do do some things better like the dodge system and the actual boss fights as well as posatively expanding on certain parts like the story and the hospital section. but then you also have to realize that they cut 40% of the areas (making a short game significantly shorter), cut enemies and bosses, neutered how nemesis works making him less intimidating, neutered his drops, neutered the gunpowder system (though 2 remake can be blamed somewhat for this), completely scrapped the scenario designs which outside of nemesis was the next big selling point of the original.

its not an embellishment to say the remake is literally half the game the original was. because 2 remake turned out so well it makes this an even harder disappointment. but if you didnt play the original then its obviouly going to make this one easier to swallow.

I thought the same thing, but I got used to it. Play 2 before 3, obviously.

tbh it's still a thoroughly fun game, and it's a great companion piece to RE2, since it's a bit shorter and feels a lot different while maintaining the same gameplay.

It's just a shit remake. It cut out soooo much from the original game it's hard not to be disappointed if you're a big fan of the original.

I'm the same. Ive probably done like 20 runthroughs because i enjoy it so much.

not as good as re2 remake imo but i still really liked it. re3 was always my favorite. i wish the developers had one more year then I think the game would have been great.

Make sure to try it out on Nightmare mode. Also make sure to try and get some of the coins once you beat the game. There's an item that helps you dodge easier, and it's pretty much required for the final boss fight on Nightmare and Inferno.

Yeah, I should just go ahead and get it. I loved RE2 Remake, but I skipped this when I learned how short it is. Value wasn't there. But now it is $20, and I might need it as a palate cleanser from all the massive open world games I will be playing soon:

Horizon Forbidden West
Elden Ring
Grand Theft Auto 5 (PS5 version) - I never played it!
Cyberpunk - been holding out for the PS5 version

I loved it. Only complaints are the length and the lack of Nemesis chase scenes. I feel that should have been the focus of the game, being stalked by Nemesis.

I disagree. Mr X was one of the worst things about the remake of 2. A whole game of that would be rubbish.

Disagree on both counts.

However I feel like this is the one game where the stalker should have been a focus. He is literally in the title of the game. They have been shoehorning a stalker in all their games lately, but Nemesis is the one where it should have been a focus.
