I remember in the early 2000s when one person would choose to contest a message, GameFAQs would ask not to contest a message for different reasons. Here were some of them.

  • Saying it was a friend/brother/cousin/hacker/dog.
I think it's funny that GameFAQs told people not to use pets and animals as an excuse to why a message was posted.

  • Saying, "I've seen other people do that and they got away with it!" Try saying that to a police officer after you get pulled over for speeding. He'll laugh at you.
Instant burn! Now it's replaced with something boring like, "You are responsible for your own messages, not someone else's." I feel like using the police officer example in real life if someone were to say to me, "But other people are doing it! Why am I being told not to?"

Does anyone have an archive to the old list of things not to say when contesting a moderation? Does anyone remember these?
