Mandating a vaccine that doesn't hinder transmissibility nor stop the illness is morally wrong.

This is good news for California though

It does hinder transmissibility and it will eliminate hospital overflow, which will save a ton of lives. But then again arguing with an antivaxxer is a waste of time.

Vaccines are never 100% perfect at preventing illness or transmission.

But they are effective at reducing both.

Pretending that something that's not perfect is completely ineffective is contributing to pandemic misinformation.

So what's the point of ending the mandate? It's like the governments just cant be bothered to keep at the rules until the virus is totally gone.

it absolutely does lower transmission rates. and while it doesn't "stop the illness", it significantly reduces the likelihood of the infection being bad. get the fuck out of here with your misinformation.

Fully vaccinated people with Delta variant breakthrough infections can spread the virus to others. However, vaccinated people appear to spread the virus for a shorter time:

Just to be clear, I dont disagree with any of that, though until the entire world is vaccinated or the US restricts travel into the country based on vaccination status and people here get the vaccine, variants are an inevitability.

even if the variants are "inevitable", we should still do everything we reasonably can to prevent or delay them from happening.

that argument is like saying you're going to refuse any and all medical care because we're all gonna die eventually. "Welp. there's no point in medical care because death is an inevitability"

Sure. The problem with with vaccine is that, unlike other vaccines like MMR, tdap, etc., its trying to prevent a disease that has shown be fairly mutagenic. That makes it difficult to get out in front of a new dominant strain before its caught on here.

I find it hard to support a mandate for something that appears to be headed for yearly variants like the regular flu. Especially when reports come out that they missed hard on vaccinating against the main flu variant this year.

Again, you're missing the important part:
Fully vaccinated people with Delta variant breakthrough infections can spread the virus to others.

Look, the vaccines are actually a marvel of science. It took covid and basically turned it into the cold for people who get double-jabbed. I myself am actually double-jabbed and so is my wife.

Here's the thing though, mandating this vaccine is wrong because you're still a spreader regardless of your vaccination status. Yes, a less severe infection means you're sick for a shorter period and it shortens the transmission window which is a good thing. But you're still contagious to other people. You'd still need to quarantine yourself.

Because of this, I don't agree with government-wide mandates of the vaccine because while it's somewhat effective, it's not effective enough to warrant a full mandate of it.

If people are so genuinely scared of getting the vaccine that they'd rather potentially die, that's on them and we can't stop that.

We have the science and the facts. The vaccine is safe, dramatically reduces the severity of covid infections but it doesn't prevent you from spreading it to other people. It only protects you, the individual.

If this is putting strain on a region's healthcare infrastructure, the solution is to fix the infrastructure. Not force medical treatment on the entire population.

The voluntary vaccination uptake should always be good enough to prevent systemic disaster. Most people will choose to get vaccinated to protect themselves at a minimum. Some people don't want to get vaccinated, that's fine too. If this minority of the population is causing systemic disaster, the problem is the system and you're blindly falling for the scapegoat.

i know the vaccines doesn't "stop" transmission, i already acknowledged that.

the issue i have with this approach / mindset of "let the unvaccinated choose death, they are only hurting themselves" is:

  • higher likelihood of new variants emerging due to more spreading
  • overwhelming of hospitals / healthcare facilities - this affects innocent patients as well as healthcare staff

Ive 100% seen this exact post somewhere weeks ago. Which conservatroll Twitter did you take it from?

you cant just build up hospital infrastructure to cover for the pandemic because then in any normal times wed have a bunch of abandoned hospitals. And where are you planning on finding all the doctors and nurses and other people to work in these new hospitals?
