Fully vaccinated people with Delta variant breakthrough infections can spread the virus to others. However, vaccinated people appear to spread the virus for a shorter time:

it absolutely does lower transmission rates. and while it doesn't "stop the illness", it significantly reduces the likelihood of the infection being bad.

sorry. the stance is still that vaccines are our best protection against covid, particuarly against preventing new variants.

Just to be clear, I dont disagree with any of that, though until the entire world is vaccinated or the US restricts travel into the country based on vaccination status and people here get the vaccine, variants are an inevitability.

Vaccines are never 100% perfect at preventing illness or transmission.

But they are effective at reducing both.

Pretending that something that's not perfect is completely ineffective is contributing to pandemic misinformation.

You'd still have to wear one outside I think

The problem is unvaccinated people arent just staying at home and dying. Theyre going to the hospital and wasting valuable resources and then dying anyway

Here's the thing though, mandating this vaccine is wrong because you're still a spreader regardless of your vaccination status. Yes, a less severe infection means you're sick for a shorter period and it shortens the transmission window which is a good thing. But you're still contagious to other people. You'd still need to quarantine yourself.

Because of this, I don't agree with government-wide mandates of the vaccine because while it's somewhat effective, it's not effective enough to warrant a full mandate of it.

If people are so genuinely scared of getting the vaccine that they'd rather potentially die, that's on them and we can't stop that.

If this is putting strain on a region's healthcare infrastructure, the solution is to fix the infrastructure. Not force medical treatment on the entire population.

The voluntary vaccination uptake should always be good enough to prevent systemic disaster. Most people will choose to get vaccinated to protect themselves at a minimum. Some people don't want to get vaccinated, that's fine too. If this minority of the population is causing systemic disaster, the problem is the system and you're blindly falling for the scapegoat.
