an avg adult male grizzly vs a male polar bear , in a fight who would win?

this is not like the african lion and tiger. These bears do share the same habitat sometimes, and those who have seen the encounters say that grizzlys usually win most of the time, or the polar bear usually backs down, despite being bigger usually

Grizzly bears vary dramatically in size.

The Kodiak bears will put up a good fight.

I dont know about their respective natural behaviors and if one is more timid irl than the other, but Id have to give the size advantage to polar bears to win in a hypothetical death match.

Polar bears might be less aggressive, but it they choose to fight, they will win. Also, they're in Grizzly territory, in weather and terrain they're not built for.

Polar bears are straight up murderers, they eat 100% meat as their diet unlike grizzlies. Basically, if the polar bear is hungry, you're fucked.

Where do you people get the notion that polar bears are less aggressive? If anything, the grizzlies are. They just have a savage name.

like i said before, in the wild where they sometimes interact, the polar bear usually cedes to the grizzly

because two predators fighting fucks them both. when a predator gets hurt they die, not because of the fight itself but because they've seen a drop in their ability to hunt. its why predators often posture instead of fight full on, because even if one of them kills the other they're left so wounded that there's no point.

none of that changes the fact that if a polar bear and a grizzly bear actually fought the polar bear would win.

It is a pretty well studied thing: Grizzlies are vastly more aggressive between the two.

The question is whether or not this sort of competition cares about such a distinction. Obviously in real life grizzlies trump polar bears, but does the more timid nature of polar bears matter here? Or is it instead stuff like how grizzlies have claws made for rending flesh while polar bears have shorter claws meant for traction on ice a relevant factor? Does the fact that Polar Bears have greater jaw strength come into play? It all depends on how you view the comparison.

eh, fyi, and in a related note like a few yrs ago a male polar bear at the detroit zoo killed a female polar bear in a failed breeding attempt. It happened before like 25 yrs before that , another polar bear incident.
