I just started and like I am just confused,some guy asked me to come to his house, then begs me to go down stairs with him. Acts creepy and then tells me I am in his way. maybe I missed something. But your character mom is just telling him to go out for some random adventure and the people next door have been giving your dad loans. Your dog can talk and says he doesn't want to go outside. Is this just bad writing or are things explained later.

No seemingly you play thru the game more and know more about what is going on. Also most of that is still odd. Example how does Ness dad give him money. Because he has a job. No need for an adult to randomly tell a kid that he dislike their family and that his dad owes 150K or some mess like that.

I dunno if this is just your process or you're trying to hate the game lol. You don't seem to be willing to even try to understand what it's going for before complaining about every lil thing. Seems like you're expecting a squaresoft game and mad you're not getting one. This game isn't a heavy dialogue and exposition game. It just has it's moments of that.

The game is a bit odd. The creator wasn't a game designer, he was an essayist. A lot of the game will feel like non-sequitur. There's a lot of quirky commentary of contemporary events, philosophical musings, and just general humor. But it's all built on an RPG engine that was largely outdated even when it came out.

I don't say this to try an hype up the prestige of the game. There's a reason it's a "cult classic" and not just a "classic" in the West. >_> Just trying to help you understand what to expect a bit better. "Odd" is right on the money, basically. But it is a unique and fun experience if you keep an open mind and let yourself get into it.

If it gives you any idea of what kind of creative process went into this thing, there's an end-game dialog that the creator based on an R-rated movie he accidentally walked into as a kid. He misinterpreted what he saw as a rape scene, and it mildly traumatized him, and then he decided to just throw that into the game. (There's no rape in the game, just the dialog itself is bizarre and unsettling) <_<

I thought the implication of that was that he lent Ness's dad like $10 one time, but he's so selfish and egotistical that he has inflated it in his head to this life saving loan. It's supposed to hammer home how selfish that family is, which explains Pokey's behaviour.

Yeah, I thought this was the point of it. The original Japanese actually has him say he loaned something like "hundreds of trillions of dollars" with the phrasing being the English equivalent of "I loaned him a million jillion dollars."
