How come they dont get real Elves to play these roles huh?? Anyways, complaining about an actors skin color is never a good look, if this series sucks its gonna be because of the writers not because of brown people playing made up characters.

That was an old racist carryover from the British thinking that the Scottish are dirty. It would be akin to saying that they should have been Irish so that PoC would get some representation as a jab at the people complaining.

Disagreed. Most, if not all, instances of white characters being replaced by non-white characters range from inoffensive to generally good ideas.

I mean if we were to talk about a show that consists of all tigers this seems more like along the line of instead of casting an orange tiger they cast a purple tiger.

The former is cringe and the latter is annoying. I think the former has more of a point though since a focus on diversity is a red flag (See: Ghostbusters 2, the VA change in Shadow Warrior 3, the writing in Borderlands in general, etc) and seems to get used as a criticism shield for a shitty product in some cases. Can't think of an example where a lack of diversity even occurred to me in a piece of media.

Like I wish people could be more than ankle deep when it comes to stuff like this. They got to go the route of anyone who doesn't like this is a white supremacist. Which is just gaslighting and stupid. There's plenty of stuff out there with people of all races as part of the continuity, lotr just isn't one of them. Not every show/movie has to look like a race rainbow. Sometimes everybody in a show or movie has all the same color skin and that's okay. I don't need white people or Spanish people in Black panther or squid game to enjoy it.

No, but I expect fantasies based on European mythology to reflect the culture. I do not want a blonde-haired blue-eyed Sun Wukong and I also don't want a Chinese Thor. It's an immersion thing. A window into a culture.

lotr, while massively influential, was always entertainment. entertainment can develop a culture but you're not going to "believe" in lord of the rings and tailor your life around aragorn quotes. at least i hope not. having a black lotr character is not the same as changing thor or sun wukong (you would have to propose this to the people back then that believed in and followed the mythology).

and curious. what would you say was the skin tone for jesus?

It's because there isn't really racial divergence in these fantasy creatures, I mean we don't see people complaining that the treants aren't also based off Japanese maple wood or cypress

I don't often watch talking YouTubes but I actually was watching a few videos coming from different people's perspectives on this LOTR thing and that guy in the meme was one of them. He actually said that most people liked Finn's character and I agree with him he said Disney kind of sidelined him.

Finn and Poe were the only likeable characters in that whole new trilogy. It's really a shame what they did to Finn. I was kind of hoping he would get the role as the main Jedi Knight and kind of have a longer conflict with that golden stormtrooper.

The first choice, actors should be chosen for best fit for the roles.

As an Asian, the most annoying shit is when they turn 1-2 characters into Black characters and call it a wrap on diversity. For the record, I don't want to race swap any characters. But if they're going to race swap, you'd think they'd include other minorities too.
