This. We were the hunting equivalent of an 80s slasher movie killer. Imagine you're a buffalo who sees someone wanting to kill you, so you run a mile away, but you look up a few minutes later and it's still there. So you run. But it's still there. And you keep doing it until you get tired out and they're still there, so they slash your throat.

We didn't hunt until we attained enough intelligence to coordinate and make tools

Until then we were mostly herbivores like other apes and probably started stealing kills from carnivorous animals at one point by scaring them away
