The duel started and this guy just kept synchroing for like 10 minutes straight before I finally got a turn. I bet if I activated Maxx C, I would've literally decked out from the amount of special summoning this idiot was doing.

I wasn't even playing, I had the sound fx in the background and I was browsing shit until I didn't hear anything anymore. But seriously, fuck modern Yugioh! This is stupid where my opponent is literally allowed to just piss around for 10 minutes before I even get to do anything >_>

I know you're tired of hearing stuff like what I'm about to say buuut

Synchro solitaire has unfortunately been a thing since like, at least the release of Cosmic Blazar Dragon (early 2017), if not earlier. TG Hyper Librarian is basically perma-limited to stop those bozos from drawing 2 every summon.

Synchro solitaire is sort of a novelty because despite going through like 40 effects during their turn, it's hard to end on an unbreakable board and their recoverability is very poor. Especially in a best of 3 environment, they will be annihilated by Forbidden Droplet, Ra Sphere Mode, DRNM, Super Poly, etc. Oh and they will probably lose to a well timed Nibiru

But yeah, they take forever especially if the pilot isn't very good at it, and it's notorious enough that the term 'synchro solitaire' exists for it.

i really want to try it and it's been months since i dropped duel links and i'm getting an itch but i know i'll uninstall when that shit happens to me

play a control deck like Eldlich and dab on comboers

What annoys me about Synchro spam is that it's like 6000 steps but rarely does anything. And it's always the same generic toolkit of monsters who have no identity outside of being intermediaries between the combo-starter and some lame boss monster that's not even that good. Negating the combo pieces isnt even an effective use of resources because all the big boss monsters are easily outed. <_<

But then I like Ritual Beasts so who am I to complain. (Though, our combos only get really bad if we open both Elder and Cannahawk, which only happens once every hundred years)

yeah thats an issue with modern yugioh
it gets even worse when you get to platinum ranks where you just constantly see the same 3 decks used over and over and over again cause people paid money to build those decks where as i havent spent a cent on the game
but ive managed to make a traptrix deck so now i annoy my way through the game
even when they win no one enjoys dueling against traptrix
unless they open with harpies feather duster

Forbidden droplets is a must

Droplets loses to good Junk Speeder synchro spam because you can't pitch monsters from your hand while Herald of Arc Light is on the field so they can respond to it with a monster. So you have to put a monster on field for droplets fodder and risk wasting a summon or getting something else negated before you can use droplets

Most people getting into Yugioh Master Duel are casuals that most likely only watched up onto the Battle City (I'll also argue Duelist Kingdom) arc in Yugioh. Most have no idea how hyper fast the actual card game is and why cards each card effect always is a thesis level in length. The moment they introduced Synchro Summon, the game has been all about special summoning, card draws, and card searches. End game monsters tend to be beefy as shit with self-protection of some sort. The big reason is that Yugioh doesn't have anything to slow it down because it doesn't have the conventional "resource system" like most other TCG.

modern yugioh typically involves one player taking 10 minutes to set up a board full of monsters that will omni negate everything and prevent the opponent from actually playing yugioh

now on the off chance the opponent does have a way to break their board the player who took 10 minutes will immediately surrender

so either way the other player doesnt actually get to play the game they just watch someone else play it

As far as I can tell the winner is determined by whoever goes first and then summons their entire deck

Ash Blossom, Nibiru, and other cards make this less true as they add interactivity as instants like in MtG, while Maxx C can nullify a turn 1 outright. Also, control is perhaps the strongest it's been in a long time, with Eldlich, Sky Strikers and such decks seeing consistent play and success while being very light on monster summoning.

Hes calling that to others itt having a meltdown because the game is no longer normal summon Celtic Guardian, pass anymore and hasnt been that day for literally over a decade.

maxx C is banned in the TCG (i know its unlimited in the new master duel game but my complaints tend to be about yugioh as a whole)
ash blossom is can stop 1 search but these 10 minute combo decks tend not to get shut down by a single ash they just power through as end on a board with 3 omni negates instead of 4.
ash is more of a threat to casual decks who cant keep going when they get ashed.

nibiru starts a chain and can be stopped if used as the wrong time but yes its a combo decks worst nightmare and can stop them outright if used at the right moment but its dead in the hand against meta control decks like sky striker and eldichs so main decking nibiru can be be a dead draw based on the match up so its better for the side deck and since sky striker and eldichs are popular decks on master duel there is a good chance it will just be a wasted card

yugioh is fun when you have an actual duel

i love the feeling of it going back and forth where any one can win ive had a few good duels and when i do i love the game

but sadly those are rare and thats why i suspect master duel will be a flash in the pan

popular for a bit but most ppl drop it

the mechanics are fundamentally broken

at the rate the game is going deuls will be decided by the coin flip

i can just see a tournament in a few years where the coin is fliped and who ever gets the win on that is just called the winner of the duel

The game has had relatively recent metas that were a lot more reasonable. It's just that the one we're currently in really likes turn 1 boards with 50 negates. God only knows why Konami keeps letting this strategy come back, but it's nothing that some good ol-fashion banlist reform wouldn't fix.

The TCG just banned the worst offenders that are still legal in Master Duel. Though I haven't played the TCG in a few years so idk what the meta actually looks like over there. Still, imo it's mostly Herald and some Tri-Brigade variants that are making the game unfun. I don't really have a problem with the rest of them. Even Eldlich is fine when they don't have a Skill Drain/IO lock.

Playing Yugioh nowadays feels like youre playing against Yugi fucking Moto himself
