lol this is so extremely Souls right off the bat

Man I missed the fear of playing a new Souls game. Horror games wish they caused this anxiety.

My last Souls experiences were slamming out 4 Demons Souls runs in a row and 2 Bloodborne runs back to back which was just a walk in the park anhilation because I know those games like the back of my hand.

Here I'm cowering around every corner and getting heart palpations when I see a rat.

If I didn't have Horizon to play through I might have tried to cancel the order and just go to Gamestop and get a copy.

Not playing properly until tomorrow, so I just messed around with the character creator and tried out a few classes in the first room. Before playing I was torn between a few different ones, but then I discovered you could do iaijutsu with the Uchigatana, so that sealed starting as a samurai now.

for anyone who hasnt started yet: be on the lookout for a merchant in a ruined churchesque where building pretty early after walking out into the open world

I totally missed him at first because I deliberately avoided the building thinking there might be enemies. He sells the item you need for crafting.

Im no fan of these little gargoyle guys

You might be doing it just to avoid messages or some other reason, but I know some people played previous games offline to avoid online invasions, so I thought I'd mention that you don't have to worry about that in Elden Ring since others can't invade unless you're doing co-op or you use a specific item to allow it.

Found the Claymore, now things are going good

If anyone finds anything out of the way that's good for FTH/STR I'd appreciate the tip!

I stumbled out of the starting area into a one way teleport to crystal caverns where enemies are one shotting me

Pretty telling that all 5 of those games are garbage. Proof that if every single nerd on the internet is raving about something, they're doing it for clout rather than because it is that good

There's a turtle shell shield in the Weeping Pennisula. It's on top of a tower you have to use a wind gust and Torrent to get it.

It comes with a War of Art that strengthens it to a point where not only does it prevent most forms of damage, but it staggers a lot of enemies when they hit it.

Super Mario Odyssey is amazing at least. Havent played ER, GTAV or RDR2 though. Ive never played RDR period and never seriously played a GTA game either (mostly just destroyed stuff and ignored the plot since it was ages ago that I last played).

I played for half an hour and so far the game seems to be a way for people to send each other messages about putting pickles in their butts

seems more like proof that youre a bad judge of what garbage is

Finally made it to Godrick

If at any point in the game, you realize youre losing a percentage of your souls upon every time you pick them back up. Its not a glitch

I'm not taking a step into the fortress that's right after getting the Maiden until I've cleaned up the rest of the map behind it.

actually never mind, this game is garbage

just had a weird glitch where I called my horse and it did the animation of me getting onto the horse but then the horse just wasnt there so I was stuck floating for a while and then just abruptly died

(Its not really a big deal, I wasnt far from grace and I got my runes back, but it was annoying)

Decided to play as a Wretch to get the experience of using what equipment I can find, its been difficult mainly down to the lack of shield, and I havent found a chestpiece yet. I dont know if theres not much equipment early on by design or if I just missed everything though.

Ive done a lot of exploring and just beat (I think) the first major boss, and the only reason I have hand armor is because I bought it. Ive found almost no equipment that wasnt dropped by an enemy.

The Godrik Knights have a decent droprate. I got both the chest piece and shoes just from taking the camp.

Yeah I think I got a shield from them and definitely a helmet. Maybe boots too. Got some gear from another human-type enemy in the like southeast? also.

That camp in the southeast is my next hurdle and it looks terrifying.

I need to find the shield Tangy mentioned first. Might see if the long sword from the camp chest works better than the starting prophet spear. As soon as I got to 16 strength to use it I went into a cave and obviously it didn't work out there lol.

Dont be afraid to just rush through stuff on horseback. You can just blast past a lot of enemies if you want to check out whats beyond them.

the big issue is sometimes youll encounter a ballista or something that can just totally knock your horse out in one shot

Oh and its probably worth going though the gate past where you met the maiden at least for some distance because theres one of the items that increases your flask total. Theyre always near little glowing trees, so it should be prettt obvious when you come across it.

I am getting my ass kicked thoroughly playing as a wretch. Only armor I have is through drops, and the first main boss was the biggest pain in the ass because blunt damage was doing nothing. Still trucking along even though I'm running into a lot of pain points.

4 hours in and not entirely sure I've accomplished much. I've run into a couple bosses which feel way above my level but it's pretty neat that I can just go in a different direction and that's totally fine. Loving this so far.

Ive run into like three or four bosses that I can get like 75% down but keep getting murdered by them

I encountered one boss that seems to only come out at night, so now Im thinking... are there others in places Ive explored that I missed because I was there at the wrong time?

I found a sort of mini dungeon that is a mine, its called Morne Tunnel.

Its in a weird little valley past four giant poisonous flowers. Its like directly West of the Castle Morne Rampart grace site, very slightly East of the minor Erdtree.
