Oh hey, Yahoo and YouGov polled no-fly zones the right way. Results unsurprising.

When asked "Would you support or oppose the U.S. enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine?" it was 40-25 in support. (Remaining 35% not sure)

When asked "Would you support or oppose the U.S. enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which would mean the U.S. military would shoot down Russian military planes flying over Ukraine, possibly triggering a war between the U.S. and Russia?" it was 23-43 opposed. (34% still not sure somehow)

Biggest shift between the question was Republicans who swung 60 points from +22 support to -38 between the two questions.

I get that it's not literally asking the same people twice, but it should effectively be the same unless their sampling is very, very flawed in a way that makes the results useless anyway.

Biden I think is smart enough to not do it. Pulled out of Afghanistan even though it tanked his poll numbers and didnt waiver with pressure from various interests trying to bait him back in.

And he's going to get politically killed for it from the right because "he's not doing enough". And those critics will hand wave away that it would very likely cause WW3 because their base won't care/understand.

Oh yeah this is not the first time Zelenskiy has asked for military intervention and it probably won't be the last, but the admin has not taken the bait. I don't think they will. I was just posting because the address to Congress is the most high profile one yet and the invocation of MLK is particularly egregious.

And I mean, I get his position to an extent - he wants the US to honor a commitment to defending Ukraine it now very clearly had no intention of following through on because the results would be a disaster. I just don't think it's gonna happen

I just view it from the angle of Rs being able to get in "free" hits. Now maybe they won't but why wouldn't they?

What's considered a win for Ukraine? Every city is going to get bombed to hell because Putin doesn't care. Russia is certainly going to take control over some of their eastern and southern territory along the water, no matter how this ends.

Oh 100%. They did the same thing on Afghanistan when the alternative strategy was apparently stay there forever. It didnt seem like Biden particularly cared at the time which was nice and I hope continues here.

Also Trump looks like a huge embarrassment after this. His strategy of developing a personal friendship with Putin either didn't work, or is dependent on Trump remaining president as long as Putin is over there. That's not a feasible solution.

The bigger picture is..... Republicans have become the party that cried wolf. You can't call every Democrat the worst ever. Are we really supposed to believe Biden is the worst president ever and Obama was the second worst and Clinton was the third worst? And Bernie or Kamala or whoever is next will be even worse? The Republicans have run out of vocabulary to describe how bad Democrats could be when they are using their strongest words to attack Biden, who is a moderate presiding over a very strong economy.

Well, those people are not swing voters. I am, and Biden is obviously not to the left of Obama. I think our Republican members of Congress are very capable people and sufficient to protect us from going too far left, even with a Dem president. It shouldnt be going away everywhere else either, but it certainly should be staying in place for a situation where you need to sit next to people for up to six hours at a time. Both people wearing a mask is substantially more protection than one person wearing a mask, and the inconvenience placed on people by making them drive cross country to minimize covid risk is ridiculously higher than the inconvenience of making people wear masks. IMO there is no case for removing the masking requirement on planes before anyone who wants it can easily get access to Pavloxid (which is currently hard to get and reduces death from covid by like 90%).
