This movie is supposed to be standalone, but I think they're planning sequels and tv show spinoffs for it? And the DCEU Batman is supposed to be appearing in future movies like The Flash. Honestly the whole thing is kind of a mess.

Oh yeah that bit in Arkham, I'm pretty curious to see that actor's take on that character.

I've only ever seen him in Eternals and I thought he was quite good there.

Joker movie might be all in his head, so I'd say it was a standalone.

Yeah I guess it makes sense from that movie's narrative, but from a franchise perspective it seems really weird to test-run that casting to such positive reception after whiffing with Jared Leto, and then not pair him with either of your Batmen, and then tease a new guy as Joker anyways. Dr. Strange gotta fix this shit

Great movie.

Honestly, up until the last 20 minutes, I was kind of feeling "The Riddler's done nothing wrong."* And then I was like, "Oh Dear, never mind."

I also liked how at the end Gordon, I believe, knows there's an active shooter situation about to unfold, and after strongly telling the mayor-elect not to go out, he's just like "Well, I tried."

*OK, he did try to kill Bruce Wayne for spurious reasons, but no harm, no foul.

agreed, apparently alfred getting blown up from arm's length was nothing but a flesh wound, so at most misdemeanor material!

Im assuming theyre retconning Batman and this is part of it, because before my showing was a trailer for DC Universe 2022 and all the movies coming out like Black Adam, The Flash, and this.

It was really weird because it was cut like a trailer and had scenes from the movie we were literally there to see.

I averted my eyes during that trailer. If I'm sitting in the theater, I shouldn't have to endure minor spoilers like that.

haha, i was pretty disgusted by this trailer too. i had no idea batman was already scheduled to appear in aquaman, then was immediately angry about the minor spoiler for this movie

also i got like non-trailer ads between trailers - is this just a regal thing, or is it everywhere?!

I liked it a LOT more the second time around.

Even though I still have issues with the plot, you can tell they put a lot of care into it. There are a lot of cool little details that you pick up the second time around.

Did anyone else think that the adrenaline shot he injected himself with at the end was venom? It seems deliberate to make it green and have him go into a violent rage after using it.

That was my thought too. Or like a precursor to the actual stuff. Figured it was potentially setting up Bane for a future installment.

I believe there's a storyline in the comics where Batman gets addicted to venom because he's pushing himself too hard. I could see that happening to this version of Batman pretty easily.

They should do Batman: Into the Batmanverse next.

I thought the same thing but was confused to why they would set that up out of the blue. This was supposed to be a standalone movie.

Pretty sure this was my favorite Batman movie. It just felt like the total package of everything you need with a Batman film to capture everything that makes the character so special.

But I still would have preferred a more traditional Riddler, and I don't even think you needed to change the plot much at all for it. I just wasn't vibing with the gimp masked version. I think they did a pretty decent job capturing most of that character though. Maybe with a little bit of help from his "friend" he'll act like a more traditional version.

Falcone was awesome and I loved his monologue with Bruce about fear. "When fear doesn't work... well, I guess there's only one other option left." Really good stuff.

it definitely didn't feel like just a setup to me. batman's fallibilty was one of my favorite parts of the movie

Good movie. I really like Jeffrey Wright as Gordon. And Kravitz as Selena. Pattinson was a good Batman too.

This might be weird, but I'm on the side of thinking it was relatively weak for a Giacchino score. I appreciated the use of Ave Maria thematically, but the rest of the time, it was imperial March, and that took me out a bit.

Aw I loved Batman's new theme. Although I do understand the imperial march comparison.

Yes! He was the most underrated part of the movie. Softspoken Falcone was creepy as hell.
