The "Black Panther" director was in Atlanta, attempting to make a withdrawal from his account with Bank of America. The teller received an alert on his account, according to the police report obtained by CNN, because the amount was more than $10,000. The teller notified her superior that she thought Coogler was trying to rob the bank and 911 was called.

Coogler had written a note on the back of his withdrawal slip stating that he wanted the money to be counted discreetly, given the amount, according to the report.

When police arrived, two of Coogler's colleagues, who were waiting for him in a parked vehicle outside the bank, were detained and placed in the back of a police car. Coogler was placed in handcuffs while police investigated the call. He was released shortly after they verified his identity, the police report states.

Maybe you could make that argument if there was a weapon involved (but this wasn't even a robbery so there wasn't), but if somebody had actually walked in off the street and had demanded money without making so much as a threat, your argument is what, hand them whatever they want and hope the police sort it out afterward?

Tellers are usually told to let thieves take whatever they want, because the bank doesn't want the robbery to escalate to a shooting, potentially getting people killed.

A friend of mine who worked in a bank said that he was actually told that if a teller tried to proactively stop a robber they'd be fired.

The general assumption is that serial numbers, ink packs, and security camera footage should be enough to catch any thief after the fact.

To respond to your confusion I would say back to your comment that if someone has robbed a bank, however has left their verified identity I wouldn't define that as "getting away". They may have left the bank, but they wouldn't get away.

There's still a pretty considerable risk of somebody overhearing that you're walking out with $13k in cash, and given the danger that knowledge can pose (both financially and in terms of personal safety), that's not a risk that's worth taking when you can just avoid it entirely by giving the instructions silently.

banks are very quiet places and most people's hearing can pick up on inside voices from a few feet away

So you want:

A: To speak loud enough to have a teller hear you from behind thick glass, with a mask on.

AND

B. To speak low enough so NO ONE ELSE IN THE QUIET ASS BANK HEARS YOU? Lol

In the UK you simply can't withdraw a shit load impromptu, you have to call ahead so they can get it to the bank. Saves having to flag anything, and you can makes your special requests over the phone.

Here the amount he was withdrawing is the maximum. So I don't see why his account was flagged.

It's safe to assume that the maximum is $10,000.

That's flagged here too, but it's because people often do that when they're withdrawing from several branches to circumvent the limit, but fraud isn't the same kind of threat as a robbery.
