Unfortunately for many marginalized groups it comes down to whether you vote for a party you don't really like that tolerates your existence, or one that is fighting tooth and nail to strip you of your rights and keep people from telling children that you even exist

When the Democratic Party governs, it is not able to completely eradicate the institutions that it despises at the level of theory, such as the church, the family, corporations, and local associations. But this owes less to the mythical "conservatism" of the Democratic Party than it does to the political and constitutional institutions that Americans have inherited. Devices such as the separation of powers and federalism still exist in this country, despite the best efforts of the Democratic Party, and however much they've been damaged over the decades they still manage to hinder the rise of the Messianic State that the Warren, Harris and Bernie types want to give to us. Complain that the Democratic Party is ineffectual at realizing its progressive ideals all you want, but don't advance the blatant lie that it is not an egalitarian and fundamentally anti-conservative party.

You can be a leftist with any government model. You can even be communist with any government model.

Conservative, you'd be opposed to abolishing poverty because it would change the status quo. So that's the only group that can't be progressive. But they might want to eliminate poverty for religious reasons or something like that.

The problem is republican politicians have successfully painted broadly popular centrist policies like Medicare for all, legalized marijuana, pharmaceutical industry reform, paid family leave, etc, as far left positions, even to their constituents who support them

then for whatever reason the historically centrist democrats choose not to support them
