Yeah, I've only ever heard of waiving monthly fees if you direct deposit a certain amount per month.

yeah. my wife and i had bank of america for a while because it was convenient. they had branches where i live and where i worked.

but 12 bucks a month pissed me off so i dropped them. i use Ally for everything, and when i need to withdraw cash or deposit checks, i have a local credit union i can go to and i just transfer the money between them.

I mean I would assume most of them charge a fee, but that fee would be paid by the employer (or the payroll service company they contract), not by the recipient. Most direct deposits are done via ACH transfer, arent they? Those have fees.

Ive never heard of any bank charging a direct consumer a fee for receiving funds, though.

I just heard one of the dozen or so banks advertising on TV say no fees for direct deposit, which implies that at least one (major) bank does

strange. some banks charge you to send money. but never to receive. i mean, technically you could just blast someone's account with tiny 15 cent ACH deposits and fuck up their day.

I think they mean if you set up direct deposit there are no fees compared to if you don't setup direct deposit. That's pretty common

When I was a teenager my bank got bought up by a bigger bank and wanted to have $500 deposit minimums on accounts for some stupid reason, I quit and joined a CU and have never looked back.

Dont think ive ever paid a fee at BofA, and its nice having everything linked to my Merrill Lynch stuff + branches everywhere + decent mobile app

It's at the top of the list of worst banks on every link and review but it probably isn't that bad. There's just literally thousands of customer complaints for no reason. Lol

He asked why and your response is "google it" because you can't say why lol. Honestly it all comes down to what you use it for and what your usual transactions are. If you just get salary direct deposited in your checking account and don't really do much else then most of the major banks aren't going to provide much different experiences honestly. If you're going through certain banks to get loans or open up savings accounts then it starts to matter a bit more, but if it's just general commerce then there's really not much difference.

I'm sure they are all bad in a sense that all they really care about is making money and they'll all prolly find every loophole they can to try and get money from you. I get non-stop emails and mails from banks enticing me to open accounts with them because I'm sure they want to invest in making money off me and millions of other people.

Credit Unions are often better than those giant commercial banks, though if you really want something that'll respect you a little more.

The list is literally too long. They're the most hated for a good reason. So yeah google it and educate yourself son

Why google something ive personally experienced?

I dont pay fees
Customer service has been fine
Had some credit card fraud that was immediately refunded

Im sure people have had plenty of negative experiences, but its not universally awful. Its a pretty well oiled machine, which is what i like in a bank.
