This is nothing new, there have been Transformers action figures for decades now.

If it doesn't function like a transformer toy, then it's just a collectible statue to go up on a shelf to look at.

Yeah Action Masters came out in the 90s, and there were lots of them. Some came with transforming partners which became weapons or accessories. Others came with transforming vehicles. A few in the European market actually did transform themselves. Omega Spreem for example (yeah not a typo).

This new Shockwave from the OP is part of the R.E.D. line. I guess it's Hasbro's way of competing with Super 7 figures and Ultimates. Of course there are plenty of other lines among the Transformers brand right now that do transform, so there's a lot to pick from. Different lines for different age groups.

IDK, regardless of when non transforming Transformers were released these expensive plain old action figures seem lazy. I wish I kept all my old ones from the 80s and 90s.

All the kids who played with and collected Transformers in the 80s are in their mid to late 40s now.
