A working kitchen sink or a dishwasher? Our sink just got massively clogged and now it's leaking underneath. And we don't have a dishwasher, nor do we have money for a plumber.

A friend is supposed to be dropping by tomorrow to try and help fix it, but failing that, we're fucked for awhile.

Get a basin and fill it up in the bathroom sink.

You may be able to just pull the trap and clear the clog yourself in like 10 minutes. Have you tried that yet? You'll want a bucket under it before you remove it.

This is very easy to do. Remove it, clean it thoroughly, retighten to avoid leaks, then use a good strong cleaner about every six months.

Also, don't put fat down the sink (like bacon fat).

And don't forget to turn the water off!

This doesn't work for me. We tried it, and the problem is likely a clog so far back we cannot reasonably reach it. We're probably going to need a plumber. Not even a pipe snake helped.

Maybe mix vinegar and water and put the mix in a spray bottle and use paper towels or something similar.

We ended up just disconnecting the S pipe and putting a mop bucket underneath, and will just use the sink that way. Pain in the ass, but less so than any other method of washing dishes.

Bucket of soapy water. Wash them outside so you don't make a mess. This is what people without access to plumbing did for 1000s of years no reason it doesn't still work.

By the way if the problem is a clog that you can't reach, try plunging the sink (be warned there's gonna be some real nasty shit coming out of the drain)

Yeah, but for now we're just going with the method of having the pipe unhooked with a bucket underneath to dump out when needed.

Plunging hasn't worked at all. The way the pipe is shaped, there's no way a plunger will ever reach the clog. It's located at the *very* back of the pipe and not even a pipe snake reached it.

In the Scouts we would setup two large wash basins (substitute a bucket) and a camping stove to heat water.

Warm water, soap at bucket 1.

Cold water, no soap at bucket 2. Important to get rid of soap residue or it gives you the shits next time.

Dry and put away.

The plunger isn't supposed to get anywhere near the clog it's supposed to push water through the clog and dislodge it

Sounds like the problem might be something other than a clog if a plunger doesn't work. You'll have to call a plumber to get them to figure it out.

damn. my suggestion is gone.

someone once put 6 kotex tampons into the toilet and somehow clogged the plumbing for the whole apartment complex. costed 600$ and the landlord wasn't happy with whomever did that.
