I look forward to this day every year, when I can wear three different pieces of clothing with the state flag on it unironically and get a free cookie, as opposed to the other days of the year when I, a Marylander, wear three different pieces of clothing with the state flag on it unironically with no cookies to speak of.

Maryland Day commemorates the arrival of the Ark and Dove in 1634.

Flag facts:
Maryland Flag Day is March 9th. It's a separate holiday from Maryland Day. The first loss of life in the Civil War took place in Baltimore during the Pratt Street Massacre in 1861. The Maryland flag was not officially adopted until 1904, combining the pro-Union Baltimore (yellow/black checkered) standard with the pro-slavery secessionist Crossland banner (red/white cross). As a border state, this flag was considered an act of reconcilliation and reunification. Growing up in Andy Harris's district, I can tell you that attempts at reconcilliation with Confederates don't bear fruit. But it's a crackerjack flag. The Baltimore County flag would be a phenomenal replacement if we decided to remove the Calvert cross.

When I was in the Boy Scouts, I used to help with the parking of cars. We would direct them in the right direction and ask for a donation. It was down in St. Marys City. I used to like like 10 minutes from there. Beautiful area

Where are you getting this free cookie at, Vanai?

I haven't obtained one yet this year, but the opportunity presents itself every year at some point during the day. All kinds of places will tend to, especially mid-size grocery store bakeries. My college would have pastries and bands and fliers. Multiple of my friends have posted breakroom photos of their flag-spangled bagels or thematic cookies. I'll let you know if I hear of any chains doing anything specific. Otterbeins put out a tin of Maryland-themed cookies, but they weren't free. >:(

Not in the US. English flag is fairly bland but the UK flag is pretty good.

Happy Maryland day. Might be going to Ocean City in a couple months. Hope it still has some places I remember.

Oh, yow, I haven't been down the ocean in almost ten years. Have a great time! When I was a teen, I juggled at Bethany Beach for a few weeks for change, until I was chased out by the bike cops for "unlicensed busking. They wanted me to pay something like $65 or $85 (in 2005 dollars). So I went to the Ocean City Town hall, paid $2 or $5 for a busking ID and did the rest of my juggling there.

Bethany patrons left more change, but OC was better people watching. :x Have a great time!

Yeah I haven't been back in 20+ years, but the family does a get together out there, so I might make the drive out.
